Australian Racing: Galaxy Reign can rule at Queanbeyan

There are four meetings set to take place on Tuesday including at Sale where an eight-race card is scheduled.

Race 8 Sale

Eloped @ 7.50

Race 5 Gatton

Top Babe @ 5.00

Race 6 Queanbeyan

Galaxy Reign @ 6.50

Eloped for Sale success

The concluding race on the Sale card is a 1736m Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place on a soft 5 track.

Cradle Of Life is expected to have his supporters for the Richard Laming stable, having been beaten less than half-a-length when runner-up at Moonee Valley on his penultimate start.

The gelding tackled a Benchmark 64 handicap on that occasion with the stewards advised that the tempo didn’t suit when a below-par seventh at Geelong subsequently.

While the gelding looks a worthy favourite here, barrier eight isn’t ideal and he is not certain to replicate that Moonee Valley effort which came on a sound surface.

ELOPED is preferred on this occasion, having registered her second career win when victorious by a narrow margin over 1600m at Stony Creek on 29th December.

Crucially that effort came on a wet track, with the mare registering her second success on a soft 6 surface when triumphing under Theodore Ladd that day.

Trained by Jack Laing, the selection stepped up to metro level for her most recent start, racing from off the pace in a six runner 1500m Benchmark 64 handicap at Sandown Hillside earlier this month.

The pick kept on nicely in behind when finishing fourth that day and she is expected to appreciate the step up in distance here.

The daughter of Fiorente gets a drop in grade here and, with forecast underfoot conditions to suit, she looks up to registering her third career win.

Babe to return to winning ways

A nine-race program is scheduled for Gatton’s re-arranged card with the fifth race a fillies & mares Benchmark 58 handicap event.

Miley’s Memory looks likely to jump as favourite, having finished in the first four in three of her four starts this spell.

Those starts included delivering her first victory in saluting over 1320m at Lismore earlier this month.

The three-year-old raced prominently from an inside barrier on that occasion and similar tactics are expected from barrier two in this contest.

However, the mare set to jump to her inside TOP BABE is the selection in this event, with the six-year-old bidding for her seventh career success.

The pick is a previous course winner, having taken out a 1400m Benchmark 55 handicap at this track at the start of November.

The selection registered back-to-back victories on that occasion ,having triumphed at Benchmark 60 level when racing off a low weight at Stanthorpe prior.

While that Stanthorpe success came on quick going, the mare showed that she is effective on wet tracks when fourth in a 1500m Benchmark 58 handicap at Kilcoy on 11th January.

The return to the saddle of apprentice Colleen Krahnen takes the eye here, with the former endurance race rider having been on board for both of those previously mentioned victories.

Galaxy to reign at Queanbeyan

The penultimate contest on Queanbeyan’s card is a Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place on a soft 5 surface.

GALAXY REIGN takes the eye here having built on a string of promising efforts when registering a victory over 1600m at Wagga on 5th January.

While that race has failed to produce a winner from five subsequent starters, the runner-up Ten Feathers was narrowly beaten when runner-up in a Wagga maiden last week.

Jockey Jean Van Overmeire was in the saddle for that Wagga success, having also ridden when the pick was fifth in a 1300m maiden at Canberra on his penultimate start.

An inside alley is a positive for Rex Cole’s inmate and, receiving weight from the hat-trick seeking Pink Panther, he is selected to complete a double.
