Australian Racing: Infatuation hard to ignore

The delayed Magic Millions Race Day at Gold Coast is the highlight on Friday, with all seven races worth $1,000,000 or more.

Race 5 Gold Coast

Snitzanova @ 8.50

Race 6 Gold Coast

Infatuation @ 6.50

Race 2 Gold Coast

Icarian Dream @ 8.00

Snitzanova for Guineas glory

The most valuable race on the card is the $3,000,000 Magic Millions 3yo Guineas, a 1400m contest that comes up as the fifth race on the card.

Peter Snowden’s Tuileries is expected to jump as favourite, having registered victories in both starts since debuting with a sixth at Warwick Farm in April last year.

This filly was spelled following that effort and she returned to action with a three-length success over 1250m when contesting at Canterbury maiden last month.

The daughter of So You Think went on to complete a double when taking out a 1300m Benchmark 72 handicap just under two weeks later and she holds obvious claims here.

A wide barrier is far from ideal, having taken out two small field events this prep and with that in mind SNITZANOVA is preferred.

Snitzanova is a proven performer at Group level, having registered Group race wins in both starts since delivering a victory in a 1400m maiden at Kensington at the end of October.

The second of the pick’s Group wins saw her triumph by just under half-a-length in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield in November.

That Caulfield triumph came on a heavy 8 track, while her previous Group race success came on a good 4 surface in the Group 3 New Zealand Bloodstock Spring Stakes at Newcastle.

The drop back to 1400m shouldn’t pose too many issues to Ciaron Maher’s filly, who looks capable of completing a four-timer.

Infatuation for Fillies & Mares success

The following race on the card is the 1300m $1,000,000 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares 2025.

Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr are represented by Miss Roumbini here, with the filly expected to have her supporters having registered wins in three of her last four starts.

The exception came when placing third in Caulfield’s Group 3 How Now Stakes over 1200m in November.

This filly was racing first up on that occasion and she recorded a second up success when getting home by a narrow margin in The Haymarket Vobis Gold Eureka Stockade Plate last time.

The four-year-old raced over 1200m on a good 4 track at Ballarat but has shown a liking for wet tracks in the past with forecast underfoot conditions here no issue.

In-form Bjorn Baker saddles INFATUATION here and she is preferred, having recorded good-placed efforts in two of her last three appearances.

Those efforts include a third over 1300m in a Benchmark 78 handicap at Rosehill three starts back when racing on a heavy 10 surface.

The daughter of I Am Invincible wasn’t beaten far when fourth at Randwick next time, while she had two of her rivals here behind her when runner-up over 1300m at Sunshine Coast last time.

Infatuation raced from the front at Sunshine Coast and she is again expected to be ridden positive jumping from barrier eight.

Tim Clark takes the ride for the first time and he looks capable of steering the four-year-old to her first victory since February last year.

Icarian Dream for 2yo triumph

Earlier on the card, the second race of the day is the Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo Classic, a $3,000,000 event set to take place over 1200m.

ICARIAN DREAM has plenty of experience with four starts to her name and she lost out narrowly when finishing strongly for second over 1100m at Rosehill on her penultimate start.

The daughter of Blue Point raced on a soft 7 track that day and she duly went one better when taking out the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes over this distance at Eagle Farm three weeks later.

Icarian Dream finished strongly having been ridden from mid-division at Eagle Farm with the second (Cool Archie), third (The Playwright) and fourth (Secret Sort) all in opposition once more.

Jockey Jason Collett retains the ride and, while the pair have a wide barrier here, they look up to completing a double together.
