Australian Racing: Island Legend eyeing Taree triumph

There are three meetings set to take place on Tuesday including a provincial fixture at Ipswich.

Race 6 Ipswich

Nagamie @ 2.10

Race 6 Hamilton

Trevenson @ 4.40

Race 8 Taree

Island Legend @ 4.80

Nagamie for Ipswich success

The sixth race on the Ipswich card is a 1666m Benchmark 60 handicap expected to take place on a soft 5 track.

Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald are set to saddle Dark Thinker here, with the filly having finished in the first three in each of her last three starts.

Two of those came last prep, including when beaten just under four lengths in a 2180m Benchmark 58 handicap here in July.

The filly resumed with a narrow defeat when finishing runner-up in a 1600m Benchmark 62 handicap held on a soft 6 surface at Sunshine Coast last month.

While the four-year-old holds obvious claims here, NAGAMIE is preferred for the Bevan Laming team.

The five-year-old finished runner-up in his first two starts this prep, including when partnered by his jockey here Martin Harley at Eagle Farm on his penultimate outing.

Nagamie lost out by less than a length when contesting a 1600m maiden held on a good 3 track that day, having filled the same position over 1300m at Gold Coast prior.

The son of Dundeel returned to the Gold Coast to break his maiden by half-a-length when contesting a 1400m maiden a month ago.

Nagamie has been freshened since that effort and stepping up in distance he looks up to completing a double.

Trevenson to triumph at Hamilton

The sixth race at Hamilton is an 1100m Benchmark 58 handicap, with Final Countdown expected to have her supporters on her first start since August.

Paul Preusker’s representative failed to shine over 1300m in a Class 1 handicap at Geelong when last in action but had been in good form prior.

Those prior efforts include a win over 1300m in a wet track maiden held at Echuca on her previous start.

The filly came home over a length clear of her rivals that day, having delivered a good two-length third over this distance at Bendigo on her previous outing.

This daughter of Atomic ran well first up last prep when narrowly beaten at Swan Hill and she holds obvious claims in this event.

The Nick Ryan-trained TREVENSON is the selection on this occasion however, as he seeks a first turf win having broken his maiden on Ballarat’s synthetic track in July last year.

A good third over 1200m in a Restricted 62 handicap on turf at Geelong followed, with the gelding spelled following that effort.

The pick has demonstrated good form in finishing fourth in both starts this prep, including when beaten just over five-and-a-half-lengths in a 1200m Class 1 metro handicap at Moonee Valley first up.

Trevenson filled the same position when beaten just over a length in a 1200m Benchmark 58 handicap held on a good 3 track at Yarra Glen last time.

The four-year-old was ridden more prominently at Yarra Glen than had been the case at Moonee Valley previously and he looks up to overcoming a wide barrier to double his career tally.

Island Legend for Taree success

The finale at Taree is a 1300m Benchmark 66 handicap set to take place on a good 4 track

Six-year-old ISLAND LEGEND has been in good form this prep registering two second-place finishes and a victory.

The second of those runner-up efforts saw him beaten just under three-and-a-half-lengths in a 1200m Benchmark 66 handicap held on a good 4 track at Tamworth.

Island Legend again encountered a good 4 track on his only subsequent start, a narrow victory in a 1258m Benchmark 66 handicap at this venue last month.

The selection raced close to the speed last time out and, stepping up slightly in distance, is taken to deliver a victory with similar tactics expected.
