Race 7 Grafton

Suzido to salute at Horsham

The finale at Horsham is an interesting 1100m Benchmark 64 handicap contest.

A soft 6 is expected for the race, with Final Countdown set to jump as favourite for the Paul Preusker stable.

The four-year-old broke through for her first win when racing over 1300m at Echuca in July last year.

Final Countdown came home over a length clear of her rivals when racing on a soft 6 that day and she was spelled by connections following a below par effort at Geelong the following month.

The daughter of Atomic returned to action with a length success over 1100m when contesting a Benchmark 58 handicap on a good 4 track at Hamilton last month.

Jaylah Kennedy is a positive jockey booking, however, her mount looks opposable with SUZIDO preferred in this race.

Stephen Theodore trains the mare who was freshened prior to registering a win on her first start of 2025 at Port Lincoln last month.

Suzido won by a length when contesting a 1000m Benchmark 60 handicap held on a good 3 surface that day.

The five-year-old went on to lose out by a narrow margin, stepping up to 1200m for a Benchmark 58 handicap over 1200m at Strathalbyn two weeks later.

Suzido raced wide and without cover that day having jumped from a double figure barrier and shouldn’t have any issues from an inside barrier here.

Jockey Jacob Opperman is a positive jockey booking in this event and his mount is taken to record her second win of the year.

Keyboard for Warwick glory

A good 4 track is expected at Warwick with the fourth race of the day an 1100m Benchmark 62 handicap.

Trainer Jimmy Downes has his horses in good form at present a 40% strike-rate (2/5) with his runners in the last month.

The handler saddles Duntroon Lass here, with the filly having registered a narrow victory over 1200m at Sunshine Coast on her penultimate start.

This four-year-old contested a 1200m Benchmark 62 handicap on a good 3 track on that occasion and she was spelled following a seventh at Ipswich in October.

However, the race-fit KEYBOARD is preferred on her second start back from a spell.

The four-year-old showed good form last prep, winning over this distance at both Toowoomba and Gatton prior to a last of 13 at Toowoomba in August.

This filly made a couple of appearances in barrier trials prior to resuming over 860m at Gatton last month.

Racing on a good 4 track, the filly lost out by less than half-a-length when third in a Benchmark 60 handicap on that occasion.

Jace McMurray, on board last time out, is again set to ride and his mount is taken to return to winning ways.

Charm to record Grafton win

The seventh race on the Grafton card is a 1410m Benchmark 74 handicap set to take place on a good 4 surface.

SWIFT CHARM has been in good form since returning from a short break, finishing in the first two in each of his last two starts.

The first of those efforts saw the gelding beaten less than a length when contesting a 1205m Benchmark 82 handicap at Coffs Harbour.

This seven-year-old went on to finish one place better when saluting by one-and-a-half-lengths over 1400m at Rosehill last month.

Brett Dodson’s representative boasts a good barrier five from the rail here and, dropping down from metro level racing, he is taken to complete a double.
