Australian Racing: King Halston set to stay the distance

There are seven meetings due to take place on Sunday with wet tracks forecast for all bar Sunshine Coast.

Race 5 Sale

King Halston @ 5.50

Race 8 Pinjarra

Blazing Away @ 6.50

Race 3 Sunshine Coast

Last Chance Saloon @ 2.70

King to reign at Sale

The fifth race on the Sale card is an interesting Benchmark 64 contest set to take place over 1717m. A soft 7 surface is forecast with Tobaysure, placed on both starts on wet tracks expected to jump as favourite.

The four-year-old gets a drop in grade here following two good runs at Benchmark 70 level this time around. The second of those saw him go down by a length in a 1400m contest at Sandown Hillside last month.

While the son of Cable Bay has placed over this trip in the past it can prove profitable to look to oppose him with preference for King Halston.

Trained by Michael Moroney the grey is a confirmed stayer having delivered multiple placed efforts last spell including over 2040m at Moonee Valley at the end of July.

The Reliable Man gelding returned this time around with a sixth when beaten just over three-and-a-half-lengths in a Restricted 64 contest at Bendigo.

The selection acquitted himself well over an inadequate 1400m trip that day while the switch to the soft 7 track forecast here is a positive with regards his chances.

Freshened since that effort Jordan Childs keeps the ride and the pair look capable of teaming up for victory from barrier three.

Blazing for Cup success

It’s Cup day at Pinjarra with a field of nine set to go to post for the 2300m feature. Casino Seventeen has shown good form since switching to Perth ahead of this spell.

The five-year-old has delivered three victories in that time including by nearly five-and-a-half-lengths in at Benchmark 81+ contest over this course and distance on a good 4 track a week ago.

Trained by Grant and Alana Williams the gelding had previously placed third in the Bunbury Cup over 2100m at Ascot when sent off an odds-on favourite.

A similar situation price wise is expected here and he meets the one-two from the Bunbury Cup Blazing Away and No Apology once more.

The first named is the selection to get the better of the favourite having been freshened since delivering a narrow margin victory in that Ascot contest.

The gelding has placed twice on soft going in the past while any more rain would prove no issue given the pick has shown a liking for a heavy track in the past.

Trained by David Harrison the pick has won at this venue in the past and is taken to deliver career win number six.

Saloon to score at Sunshine Coast

Trainer David Vandyke has been in the winners in recent days including with Asteria at Ipswich on Friday and he saddles Last Chance Saloon in the third at Sunshine Coast.

The race in question is a 1400m Benchmark 65 contest with a good 4 surface expected. The son of Maurice is one of four last start winners in the field with the pick having delivered a half-length victory when well supported in the market for a maiden here last month.

That maiden success came over 1200m however the selection shaped as if he would be suited by further when coming from off the pace on that occasion.

Last Chance Saloon took a step forward to deliver a victory that day having previously finished a close up fourth, beaten less than two lengths in a 1000m contest here on debut.

Ben E Thompson’s mount has a fair alley in seven here and looks capable of completing a double.
