Australian Racing: Lady Di Di seeks Sundown success

There are a number of meetings set to take place on Sunday, including a metro fixture on the synthetic track at Devonport.

Race 6 Devonport

Bold Instinct @ 5.00

Race 7 Wangaratta

The Devil In Her @ 3.80

Race 1 Sandown

Lady Di Di @ 5.00

Bold for Devonport success

The sixth race of the day at Devonport is a 1009m Benchmark 72 handicap, with Seydoux expected to have her supporters having won four of her last five starts.

Three of those wins have come on a good 4 track at Launceston, including by over two lengths when taking out a 1220m Benchmark 68 handicap there in April.

The mare, who won four times here in 2023 including in a course and distance maiden, duly completed a double when successful over 1150m when making all here subsequently.

Adam Trinder’s representative drops in distance here and, while she has won over this trip in the past, she looks vulnerable with BOLD INSTINCT preferred.

The four-year-old returned to action with a good second place finish over this course and distance in a Restricted 62 handicap in January.

The selection was freshened following a half-length defeat that day and went one better when triumphing by two-and-a-half-lengths over 1200m switched to turf at Launceston.

The gelding has been beaten on both subsequent starts, including when just under one-and-a-half-lengths fourth in an 1100m Class 4 handicap at Launceston on 10th April.

Sigrid Carr rides for the first time here and she looks capable of steering the son of Impending to victory.

Devil to triumph at Wangaratta

The seventh contest on the Wangaratta card is a Benchmark 64 handicap set to take place over 1590m on a soft 7 surface.

Peel The Stickers is expected to start favourite, having shown good form earlier this year.

The gelding’s efforts so far in 2024 include a length success in a 1500m Benchmark 58 handicap held on a good 3 track at Bendigo in February.

The four-year-old has made just two subsequent starts, including when runner-up over 1300m in a Benchmark 64 handicap at Bendigo in April when next in action.

Patrick Payne’s representative jumped at short odds when finishing only sixth in a similar race to this over course and distance on 16th May.

A change of tactics saw the gelding race from the front that day, however, on a wet track stablemate THE DEVIL IN HER is preferred.

The filly failed to shine when making her return to action in finishing 13th in a 1400m Benchmark 70 handicap at Warrnambool at the start of last month.

However, she took a marked step forward when two-and-a-half-lengths fourth over 1600m at Pakenham just over three weeks later.

The selection raced on wet tracks on each occasion, including on a soft 6 surface in a Benchmark 64 handicap at Pakenham.

The four-year-old raced three wide under Emily Pozman that day with Pozman again set to ride in this event.

The daughter of Sebring has performed well on heavy tracks in the past and, while any softening of the going would be no issue, she looks capable of registering her fourth career win.

Lady for Sandown glory

They race on the Lakeside course at Sandown with LADY DI DI taking the eye in the opening 1200m Benchmark 70 handicap.

A good 4 track is expected, with the pick having won first up this prep when taking out a 1000m Benchmark 70 handicap at Cranbourne in March.

The selection won on a good 4 surface that day, prior to failing to shine when jumping at $17 for a handicap event down the straight at Flemington later that month.

The four-year-old has demonstrated solid form in defeat since then however, including when beaten less than two lengths into fourth on the Hillside track here on 8th May.

The pick contested a seven-runner 1000m Benchmark 70 handicap that day and, having won over this distance in the past, she looks up to returning to winning ways in this event.
