Australian Racing: Lady to Boss it at Kensington

There are five meetings set to take place across Australia on Wednesday, including at Kensington, where a seven-race card is on the schedule.

They also race at Doomben, Gawler, Northam and Sale.

Race 6 Kensington

Lady Boss @ 5.00

Race 8 Sale

Sirius Statement @ 4.20

Race 5 Doomben

Nerano @ 4.00

Collett to lead Lady Boss to Kensington success

The sixth race of the day at Kensington is a 1550m Benchmark 72 handicap expected to take place on a soft 5 track.

The four-year-old Pink Shalala is expected to start as favourite here, having registered placed efforts in both starts since resuming with a sixth at Warwick Farm last month.

The gelding was beaten just under one-and-a-half lengths that day, with both of his subsequent placed efforts coming on wet tracks at Canterbury.

The most recent of Chris Waller’s representative's placings saw him beaten a length over this distance when contesting a Benchmark 72 handicap earlier this month.

While the Shalaa gelding holds obvious claims with James McDonald up, LADY BOSS is the selection when stepping up in grade.

The daughter of Street Boss is another to have placed in two of her three starts this prep, including when narrowly beaten in finishing second at Warwick Farm last month.

The 5.00 filly placed second when contesting a 1300m Benchmark 72 handicap held on a heavy 10 track that day and she has gone on to finish third at Canterbury since.

That Canterbury third saw her drop to Benchmark 64 level for a five-runner contest and, having been apprentice ridden both times, the booking of Jason Collett is a positive here.

The pick is set to jump from barrier nine and she looks capable of recording her first win in over a year.

Sirius Statement to be made at Sale

A soft 7 track is expected at Sale with the concluding race on their eight-race card a 1429m Benchmark 70 handicap.

Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman’s Ten Deep is expected to feature prominently in the betting on her first start since placing third at Sandown in March.

The British-bred filly lost out by less than a length when contesting a small field 1400m Benchmark 78 handicap that day and she was spelled subsequently.

The daughter of Ten Sovereigns was making just her second start of the season that day and connections will be hoping she can record her first win in over a year.

Gavin Bedggood's SIRIUS STATEMENT is preferred here, however, having registered wins in three of his last five starts.

The five-year-old stepped up to a Benchmark 78 handicap held over 1400m at Caulfield when failing to shine last month, but she has been freshened since that disappointment.

The 4.20 pick's most recent victory came on her penultimate outing when successful by just under one-and-a-half lengths over 1600m at Mornington in April.

The Press Statement mare was completing a double when saluting in a Benchmark 70 handicap that day, having previously scored over 1400m at Pakenham nine days earlier.

While Tom Prebble's mount has a wide barrier to overcome here, she has gone well from mid-division and off the pace in the past and looks up to returning to winning ways.

Nerano looking good at Doomben

The fifth race on the Doomben card is a 1640m Benchmark 85 handicap event.

A soft 5 track is expected, with the booking of Angela Jones for Paul Wallace's NERANO catching the eye.

The four-year-old showed good form at Toowoomba last month, including when winning over 1300m in a Benchmark 70 handicap event held on good ground.

The 4.00 pick came home nearly three lengths clear of his nearest pursuer that day and he also ran well when runner-up stepped up to 1625m for a similar event there next time.

The son of Snitzel was beaten just under five-and-a-half lengths on his first start on a wet track this prep and he performed well at metro level here last time.

That latest effort saw the selection beaten just over two lengths into fourth when contesting a 1650m Benchmark 75 handicap.

The gelding gets in off a nice racing weight here and, jumping from an inside barrier, he looks up to recording the sixth win of his career.
