There are six race meetings set to take place on Sunday including at Nowra, where the Showcase Cup is the feature race.

They also race at Bendigo, Geraldton, Hawkesbury, Hobart and Sunshine Coast.

Race 7 Hobart

Press For Boom @ 2.70

Race 6 Hawkesbury

Shelstein @ 4.40

Legacy can leave his mark at Nowra

The previously mentioned Nowra Showcase Cup 2024 is a 1600m handicap set to take place as the penultimate contest on an eight-race card at Nowra.

A number of scratchings means a field of 10 remain in the race, with Hollywood Hero expected to jump as favourite for trainer Bjorn Baker.

The gelding has failed to score in six starts this prep, but has delivered some good efforts in defeat, including when fourth of seven in a metro event at Rosehill on his penultimate start.

That Rosehill effort saw him beaten just over three lengths when contesting a 1500m Benchmark 88 handicap.

A decent fifth in a 1600m Benchmark 88 handicap at Kembla Grange followed and the five-year-old holds obvious claims with Rachel King up.

LOUIE’S LEGACY is preferred on this occasion, however, with the gelding having completed a hat-trick when taking out a 1600m Benchmark 75 handicap at Canberra in impressive fashion in October.

The selection came home nearly four lengths clear of his nearest pursuer on that occasion and he registered a solid seventh in Gundagai’s Snake Gully Cup subsequently.

Trained by Barbara, Joseph, Paul & Matt Jones, the 10.00 six-year-old caught the eye when finishing one-and-a-half-lengths third in the 1600m Queanbeyan Regional Cup handicap last time out.

The son of The Factor had Just Go Bang, the winner that day, ahead of him there, but he looks up to reversing that form having met trouble in his running.

Quayde Krogh’s mount is tactically versatile and jumping from barrier three he looks up to recording a Cup win.

Boom to Press on with winning run

The Winzenberg Handicap, an 1100m contest, comes up as the seventh race of the day at Hobart.

Tsunami Sam is expected to have his supporters, having finished a length fifth in the Goodwood Handicap over this track and trip first up this prep.

The gelding raced on a soft 5 track that day and similar underfoot conditions are expected for this event.

The six-year-old failed to shine when fading having raced from the front in Launceston’s 1200m Tasmanian Newmarket Handicap subsequently, however.

The unbeaten PRESS FOR BOOM is the selection here, with the filly heading into this contest as the winner on all four of her previous starts.

Two of those victories have come over this distance, with the most recent of those seeing her take out a Class 2 handicap on a soft 5 surface here in June.

The 2.70 pick went on to salute by over a length when stepped up to 1200m for a three-year-old handicap on a soft 6 track at Hobart at the end of July.

John Blacker’s representative hasn’t been seen in race action since that 1200m success, but did deliver a couple of solid barrier trial efforts last month.

David Pires takes the ride for the first time and, wearing winkers for the first time, the daughter of Press Statement is taken to maintain her unbeaten record.

Shelstein set for Hawkesbury success

The penultimate race on a seven-race card at Hawkesbury is a 1400m Class 1 handicap set to take place on a good 4 track.

Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald’s SHELSTEIN broke through for his first victory when saluting by a narrow margin in a 1200m maiden at Kembla Grange when making his seasonal debut.

The pick followed that effort up with a good third of four, beaten less than two lengths when contesting a Benchmark 68 handicap over the same distance at Rosehill last month.

The runner-up that day went on to place second back at Rosehill subsequently, while the fourth home lost out by a narrow margin here next time.

The 4.40 gelding failed to shine when last of nine in a 1250m Benchmark 64 handicap at Canterbury subsequently, but he can be forgiven for that effort having reared at the start.

Apprentice Mollie Fitzgerald takes a valuable three kilograms off the selection’s back, with the pair taken to score on their first start together.
