Australian Racing: McLeod to guide Tatsu home at Geelong

There are five meetings for punters to get stuck into on Tuesday, including at Geelong where a good 4 track is expected.

They also race at Armidale, Gatton, Goulburn and Horsham.

Tatsu @ 3.50

Race 7 Goulburn

Luconi @ 4.40

Race 6 Horsham

Masked Marauder @ 5.00

Tatsu primed for Geelong success

The penultimate race on Geelong’s eight race card is a 1425m Benchmark 64 handicap.

Bonnaroo is expected to have her supporters for the Mark Young team, having been in good form so far this season.

The filly won her first two starts of the 2024/25 campaign in August, including on a heavy 8 track over 1400m at Horsham.

Since then she has demonstrated that quicker going is no issue, including when third at $21 in a 1312m Benchmark 64 handicap here just under two weeks ago.

Steven Vella, on board that day, is again set to ride and, while his mount is respected on her second start back from a spell, preference is for TATSU.

The four-year-old broke his maiden by a length when contesting a 1400m contest held on a good 4 track here in June.

The 3.50 gelding was spelled following that effort and he returned to action with a good third in a 1200m metro Class 1 handicap at Moonee Valley early last month.

A Cranbourne third followed, with the pick returning to winning ways when tackling a 1429m Benchmark 64 handicap at Werribee earlier this month.

The selection raced close to the speed on a good 4 track that day and similar tactics are expected with Rhys McLeod retaining the ride.

Luconi goes for Goulburn glory

The finale at Goulburn is a 1200m Class 1 handicap set to take place on a heavy 8 track.

Danielle Seib's Xcessive Force debuted with an impressive track and trip win last month and she is expected to jump as favourite here.

The filly came home nearly three lengths clear of her rivals when making all the running that day, however, she is set to tackle much softer going than the good 4 she encountered there.

The daughter of Brutal failed to shine on a soft 7 in a recent barrier trial at Hawkesbury and with that in mind she looks opposable from a double figure barrier.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, LUCONI made the perfect start to his career when debuting with a three-length success over 1200m at Scone in July.

The four-year-old raced on a heavy 9 track that day and lost out narrowly stepped up to 1500m for a Class 1 handicap at Kembla Grange just over two weeks later.

The 4.40 gelding tackles an easier contest here than he did on his final two starts that prep, with the pick having last race over 1900m in a Benchmark 72 handicap at Canterbury in August.

The selection was beaten just over two-and-a-half-lengths when sixth that day, but he has trialled well ahead of this contest.

The drop back in distance is unlikely to pose an issue and he is taken to double his career tally with Adam Hyeronimus booked to ride.

Marauder to salute at Horsham

The sixth race at Horsham is an interesting 1100m Benchmark 58 handicap expected to take place on a soft 5 track.

Tom Dabernig saddles MASKED MARAUDER here, with his gelding breaking through for his first win when resuming at Bendigo last month.

The pick came home half-a-length clear of his six rivals when contesting a 1000m maiden held on a good 4 track that day.

The 5.00 four-year-old lost a plate when beating just one rival home over 1014m in a Werribee Benchmark 64 handicap earlier this month.

It is worth forgiving that effort given the issue the son of Toronado had with a plate and he has a good barrier six from the rail here.

Jordyn Weatherley boasts an impressive 31.5% strike-rate (34/108) when teaming up with trainer Dabernig and her mount is taken to return to winning ways.
