The Group 3 Gosford RSL Belle Of The Turf Stakes over 1600m comes up as the penultimate race on a seven-race card at Wyong.
A good 4 track is expected for the race restricted to fillies and mares ,with Chica Mojito likely to feature prominently in the betting following a string of good efforts.
The four-year-old has finished runner-up in five of her six starts this prep, however, all of those efforts have come at a lower level than she tackles here.
Chris Waller’s filly was narrowly beaten when contesting a 1600m Benchmark 78 handicap held on a good 4 track at Randwick earlier this month, having previously placed second at Kembla Grange.
The daughter of Zacinto’s sole unplaced effort this prep came when a decent two-and-a-half-length seventh in the Group 3 James Squire Angst Stakes at Randwick in October.
However, the in-form PIER PRESSURE is preferred on this occasion, having got the better of Chica Mojito when the pair met in the previously mentioned Benchmark 78 handicap at Randwick.
While Kris Lees’ representative meets her main rival on worse terms here, she looks a filly on the up having completed a hat-trick when winning at Randwick.
The four-year-old had previously come home nearly three-lengths clear of her rivals when contesting a 1550m Benchmark 72 handicap held on a soft 7 track at Canterbury just over a month ago.
While the filly won on a wet track at Canterbury, the good 4 going expected here is no issue and jumping from barrier four she is taken to continue her winning run stepping up in grade.
The fifth race at Wyong is this season's renewal of the Listed Gosford Race Club Gosford Guineas, a 1200m contest for three-year-old’s.
A field of eight is set to go to post with Amazing Eagle expected to have his supporters having won in this company when contesting Randwick’s Brian Crowley Stakes in October.
The colt was racing first up when getting home by a narrow margin on that occasion and he has made just one subsequent appearance.
That subsequent effort saw the son of Capitalist lose out narrowly in finishing second in the Magic Millions Pierata Plate over this distance at Doomben at the end of last month.
Tyler Schiller’s mount raced on a heavy 10 track that day and rates highly in this event.
However, stepping up to Listed company for the first time, MIDNIGHT DYNAMITE is preferred, having won twice from four starts this time around.
The gelding finished a close second when contesting a 1300m Benchmark 72 handicap held on a good 4 track at Randwick recently and he represents the in-form Bjorn Baker stable.
Prior to that, the youngster had finished a good third when contesting a six runner Benchmark 72 handicap held over this distance at Rosehill earlier this month.
Joshua Parr’s mount has an inside barrier for this event and he looks up to returning to winning ways, having completed a double when winning over 1100m at Canterbury three starts back.
The sixth race at Echuca is a 1600m Benchmark 58 handicap contest.
A good 4 track is expected for the race with SPANGLED SLIPPER selected to end the year on a high.
The four-year-old finished a good second when contesting an 1856m Benchmark 58 handicap at Kyneton in April and filled the same position when racing over 2100m here next time.
Spangled Slipper has made just two subsequent starts, with one of those seeing her jump at big odds for the 2500m Group 3 SA Fillies Classic at Morphettville.
The filly made a promising return to action when finishing just under five-and-a-half-lengths fourth in a 1400m Restricted 58 handicap at Horsham recently.
Harry Coffey, on board that day, is again set to ride and his mount, who placed in metro company at Moonee Valley in February last year, is taken to register her second career win.
