Australian Racing: Midnight Glow can light up Cranbourne

There are a number of meetings set to take place on Friday, including at Gold Coast, where eight races are scheduled.

Race 3 Gold Coast

Dragonne Rouge @ 6.50

Race 7 Cranbourne

Midnight Glow @ 6.00

Race 7 Inverell

Lesgo Don @ 8.50

Rouge to remain unbeaten

The feature race on the previously mentioned Gold Coast card is the third race of the day, the $1,000,000 Magic Millions National 2yo Classic.

A soft 6 track is expected for the 1000m contest, with Prince Tycoon set to jump as favourite for the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young team.

The two-year-old sold for $80,000 when led through the ring as a yearling and he showed up well in winning two Cranbourne jump outs prior to his racecourse debut.

This son of Written Tycoon went on to make the perfect start to his career when successful by half-a-length over 1100m at Caulfield just under two weeks ago.

A wide barrier isn’t ideal here however and, having raced on a sound surface at Caulfield, he is set to encounter a wet track for the first time.

Shaun Dwyer’s DRAGONNE ROUGE is a proven wet track performer and she is preferred on this occasion.

The youngster debuted with a victory over 1000m in a Sunshine Coast maiden back in March.

This daughter of Dracarys went on to maintain her unbeaten record when successful by just over half-a-length stepped up to 1110m at Doomben last month.

Dragonne Rouge went on to prove that she can compete at a higher level when saluting by nearly a length in the Listed Aquis Stallions Calaway Gal at Eagle Farm two weeks later.

The filly raced over 1200m at Eagle Farm but shouldn’t have any issues dropping back in distance while barrier six is a positive in this event.

Glow to record win

The ground at Cranbourne is expected to be a good 4 with the penultimate race of the day a 2080m Benchmark 70 handicap.

Ben Allen’s mount All So Clear is set to jump as favourite, following a victory in a 2000m Benchmark 64 handicap at Ballarat earlier this month.

The six-year-old was building on a string of placed efforts when successful by a narrow margin that day and he holds obvious claims.

John Salanitri-trained MIDNIGHT GLOW is preferred in this event, having won two of his three starts since returning from nearly three months off the track.

The first of those victories saw the gelding triumph by one-and-a-half-lengths in a 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap at Sale at the end of March.

Midnight Glow raced on a wet track that day and encountered good going when finishing runner-up over 1600m at Terang subsequently.

Craig Newitt, on board at Sale and set to ride here, returned to the plate when the pick triumphed by nearly two lengths stepped up to 1700m at Warrnambool last time.

The son of Sebring recorded some respectable efforts in metro company at around this distance last prep and he is taken to salute jumping from barrier five.

Don to score second up

The seventh race on Inverell’s 10-race card is a 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap contest.

With Bad Boy Darby absent, a field of 14 are set to go to post on a soft 5 track with LESGO DON looking capable of recording a win.

The four-year-old has placed third in two of his three previous starts at this venue, including when contesting a 1200m Class 2 handicap here in November.

This son of Invader ended that prep with two wins in Benchmark 50 handicap events, including over 1450m on good going at Quirindi just after Christmas.

Ridge Wilson’s representative resumed with a good one-and-a-half-length fourth in a Benchmark 58 handicap over 1200m at Glen Innes earlier this month.

Lesgo Don is expected to have improved for that effort and he looks up to providing apprentice Shannen Llewellyn with a winner.
