Australian Racing: Mr Blackwood loves The Valley

There’s no fewer than nine meetings set to take place on Friday highlighted by metro meetings at Moonee Valley and Randwick Kensington.

Race 5 Moonee Valley

Mr Blackwood @ 5/1

Race 5 Randwick Kensington

Summerbeel @ 4/1

Blackwood to score at The Valley

The fifth at Moonee Valley is an interesting Benchmark 64 contest set to take place over 2500m. A good 4 track is forecast for the 12 runner contest with Mr French expected to prove popular having won two of his last three starts.

The second of those came in impressive fashion over 2400m in a Benchmark 64 event at Bendigo in November. Raced on a good 3 surface on that occasion and has been freshened up since seemingly failing to handle the 3000m at Benchmark 70 level here subsequently.

Claimer Thomas Stockdale, on board for his last three starts is again in the saddle and the pair are expected to race on or close to the pace.

Handler Cindy Alderson has had success The Valley in recent times with a 27% strike-rate (3/11) here in the last year. Mr Blackwood is one of two representatives for Alderson in this contest and he has acquitted himself well here in the past.

That effort came when fourth in a 3000m Benchmark 78 contest just under a year ago. Sole victory this spell came when winning at Benchmark 58 level on a good 4 track in a 2082m contest at Moe last start. Extra distance here is no issue and having performed well at a higher level in the past Daniel Moor’s mount is taken to complete a double.

Summerbeel for Randwick Kensington glory

Ella Te Ama is expected to jump as favourite for the fifth race on the Randwick Kensington card, a Benchmark 72 contest.

The race in question is a 1550m event with a good 4 surface forecast. Kris Lees’ representative has shown good form this spell with her sole finish outside the top four in five outings coming when seventh at Group 3 level in the Belle Of The Turf at Gosford in December.

Has since delivered a good second place finish over 1600m at Randwick when competing at Benchmark 78 level on a soft 5 track and rates a worthy favourite in this grade.

Summerbeel is the selection in this event however having delivered a highly promising fifth over 1400m at Warwick Farm when returning from over ten months off the track last month.

The daughter of Savabeel was beaten less than two lengths in a Benchmark 72 event held on a good 3 tradck that day.

Shaped as if she’d stay further when winning a Class 1 over 1500m on a soft 5 surface at Kembla Grange last February and she looks up to scoring for jockey Rachel King and the Gai Waterhourse & Adrian Bott training team.

Sarsen for Sunshine Coast triumph

The Adam Campton-trained Sarsen catches the eye in the Class 1 1400m handicap that is the fifth race at Sunshine Coast.

Sarsen has demonstrated good form this spell finishing in the first three in five of his seven starts including when runner-up at Restricted 62 level over this course and distance last time.

Had previously broken his maiden by half-a-length in a 1300m event here just over a month ago. Both of those efforts came on a good 4 track with similar going forecast here.

Main rival and likely favourite Sea Ripple performed well over 1200m here first up but looks best over shorter distances than she tackles here. The selection has a good draw in three and is selected to double her career tally.
