Race 7 Bairnsdale

Nursery Chime @ 6.00

Frankie for Wildcard success

The previously mentioned Country Championships Wildcard comes up as the penultimate race on an eight-race card at Goulburn.

The 1400m Class 5 set weights contest has attracted a field of 14 with Gundy Guy expected to have his supporters.

The three-year-old won a barrier trial over 800m here in August, prior to debuting with a second over 1080m in a maiden contest at Canberra Acton later that month.

The gelding was spelled following that effort and has gone unbeaten in three starts since returning to action.

The most recent of those three victories came by over a length in a 1300m handicap at Canberra earlier this month.

Todd Smart’s representative showed he handles a soft 5 surface on that occasion and he rates highly with the going expected to be slightly softer here.

However, the Aaron Clarke-trained BON FRANKIE is preferred here, having been allocated barrier one.

The five-year-old has been in good form this prep including when delivering a second up success when racing over this distance at Rosehill in January.

The pick took out a Class 3 handicap on a soft 5 track on that occasion and he has placed third on both subsequent outings.

The son of Bon Hoffa arrives here on the back of a close third over this trip in a Class 5 set weights event held on a good 4 track at Moruya on 3rd March.

The selection had a number of his rivals here behind him when jumping at odds of $26 that day and he is selected to record his fifth career win.

Casino for Cup glory

There’s Listed action in Western Australia with the 2024 running of the 2300m Pinjarra Cup at Pinjarra Scarpside.

The Daniel & Ben Pearce team send out Queen Alina here, with the mare having demonstrated solid form this season including at this level at Ascot in December.

The five-year-old recorded a Listed handicap success in the A.T.A Stakes over 2200m on a good 3 track on that occasion.

While the mare failed to shine back at Ascot next time, that did come in the Group 2 Perth Cup.

While Chris Parnham’s mount has recorded a couple of good efforts in defeat since that Perth Cup effort preference is for top weight CASINO SEVENTEEN.

The gelding won the previously mentioned Group 2 Perth Cup by a narrow margin and has finished in front of Queen Alina in both subsequent starts.

The six-year-old arrives here on the back of a narrow defeat in the 2000m Bunbury Cup which was held on a good 4 track at Bunbury just over two weeks ago.

The step back up in distance is a positive here with Jarrad Noske, on board at Bunbury, again set to ride.

The son of Casino Prince delivered a comfortable two-length win in this race 12 months ago and, while he has to concede weight all around, he looks up to following up.

Nursery can score at Bairnsdale

It’s Cup Day at Bairnsdale with the 1600m handicap set to take place as the penultimate race on an eight-race card.

NURSERY CHIME has been in good form racing at metro level in recent months and she arrives here on the back of a second over 1800m at Caulfield Heath.

The five-year-old was beaten over three-and-a-half-lengths in a Benchmark 70 handicap for fillies on that occasion.

The drop back in distance is in her favour having finished a good second over this distance at Moonee Valley on her penultimate start.

Trained by Lloyd Kennewell & Lucy Yeomans, she has the services of Theodore Ladd here, with the pair selected to deliver a victory.
