There’s plenty of racing action on Wednesday, including four metro meetings for punters to get involved in.
Fortune @ 6.00
Oceans Of Energy @ 3.50
Leaving Las Vegas @ 2.60
They are set to race on the Kensington course at Randwick with a seven-race card that features an 1800m Benchmark 72 handicap as the sixth race of the day.
A soft 7 track is expected, with Frankly Elegant set to jump as favourite for the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott team.
The five-year-old won twice last prep, including when racing over this track and trip in an 1800m Benchmark 64 handicap held on a heavy 9 track.
While unable to score in two starts this prep, the mare has delivered two good second-place finishes over 1550m at Canterbury.
The mare was beaten just under one-and-a-half-lengths when contesting a Benchmark 72 handicap for fillies & mares held on a good 4 surface last month.
That form looks strong with the winner and third both registering victories next time and, while she holds obvious claims, the grade dropper FORTUNE is the pick here.
The gelding is another to have placed on both starts this prep, including when narrowly beaten in a 1600m Benchmark 78 handicap on the main track here at the end of last month.
Fortune raced over 1600m on a good 4 track that day, having finished runner-up over 1550m at Canterbury on his return to action prior.
Barrier nine shouldn’t pose too many issues for the Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald-trained gelding, who performed well on wet tracks when trained in France.
Benjamin Osmond takes three kilograms off his back and the five-year-old is taken to record his first win since switching hemisphere’s.
A soft 5 track is expected at Ipswich with the penultimate race on the card a 1350m Class 3 handicap.
West Cork is expected to have his supporters, having registered three placed efforts since winning over this course and distance at the start of November.
That victory came in a Benchmark 58 handicap, with the five-year-old following a Benchmark 68 third here last month with a narrow defeat when second nine days later.
Both of those efforts came over this track and trip and, while Mitch Faulkner’s gelding holds strong claims, preference is for Matthew Dunn’s OCEANS OF ENERGY.
The four-year-old was set a stiff task when contesting The Star Galaxy over 1400m at Eagle Farm last month and this looks a much easier contest.
This filly jumped at $31 when trailing in last of 11 on a good 4 track that day and she is better judged on her earlier form.
Oceans Of Energy was beaten two lengths when contesting a 1350m Benchmark 78 handicap held on a soft 5 track at Doomben prior to that with that form working out well.
The daughter of Dundeel has been freshened since her latest start and, having trialled with a promising third at Lismore earlier this month, she can register a win back in a handicap.
The fourth race at Geelong is a 1312m maiden event, with LEAVING LAS VEGAS expected to break through for his first win.
This gelding has placed on all three previous starts, including when half-a-length second in a 1200m maiden at Murray Bridge last month.
The three-year-old raced on a good 4 track that day and similar underfoot conditions are expected for this contest.
Phillip Stokes’ representative arrives here on the back of a strong finishing second when ridden cold over 1200m at Morphettville just under three weeks ago.
The form of that contest is working out well with the fourth, fifth and sixth all delivering victories on their next start.
Extra distance is expected to suit here and, making his first start in Victoria, he is selected to register a win.
