Gladiola to take Blue Diamond

The two-year-olds take centre stage in the eighth race at Caulfield with the 2025 renewal of the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes over 1200m.

Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young’s team are set to saddle Field Of Play here, with the son of Deep Field unbeaten in two starts to date.

The gelding debuted with an impressive victory by over three lengths when contesting the 1200m Drummond Golf Handicap at Moonee Valley in December.

Blake Shinn’s mount went on to complete a double when dropped to 1100m for the Blue Diamond Prelude, a Group 3 event held at this venue two weeks ago.

Both of those victories came on a good 4 surface and he looks to hold obvious claims in this field.

The John McArdle-trained MY GLADIOLA is preferred on this occasion, with the pick having impressed when taking the 1000m Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview at Sandown on debut.

Racing on the Lakeside course that day, the filly raced from behind the speed prior to asserting in the final 300m when racing on a good 4 track.

The daughter of I Am Invincible started favourite for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Prelude over 1100m here last time, with connections opting to race from the front with their grey.

My Gladiola was keen under the change of tactics that day and expect to see her ridden with more restraint jumping from barrier 11.

Jamie Mott, on board for both previous starts, is again set to ride and his mount is taken to reverse form with Prelude winner Palm Angel, who had finished behind the selection at Sandown prior.

Bulletproof for Oakleigh glory

The following race at Caulfield is the 1100m Group 1 Oakleigh Plate.

Estriella is expected to have her supporters for the Ciaron Maher stable, having registered some good efforts at the top level last prep.

The best of her three Group 1 efforts last time out was a fourth place finish, beaten less than a length in the 1000m Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley in September.

Estriella raced first up that day and registered her most recent victory when successful by a narrow margin in the Group 2 Millennium Sprint over 1000m here in October.

While the four-year-old holds obvious claims and arrives here unbeaten in two starts at this venue, the lowly weighted SHE’S BULLETPROOF is the selection.

The daughter of Shooting To Win has finished in the first two in all five starts this prep, including when runner-up in the Group 3 How Now Stakes over 1200m here in November.

She’s Bulletproof raced against her own sex that day and it has been a similar story in her two most recent starts, including when winning impressively at Sandown at the start of this month.

She’s Bulletproof came home nearly three lengths clear of her nearest rival in the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes over 1200m on that occasion, with the third and 10th both going on to win subsequently.

The drop back in distance shouldn’t pose too many issues here and, with a top hoop in Craig Williams up, she looks capable of recording a win on her first start at this level.

Public to salute at Rosehill

In Sydney they are set to stage 10 races at Rosehill, including the 1400m Group 2 Hobartville Stakes which comes up as the eighth race of the day.

Broadsiding has won three times at Group 1 level, however, his effort against older rivals in the 1600m VRC Champions Mile at Flemington in November was disappointing.

James Cummings’ star goes on a retrieval mission here, with preference for PUBLIC ATTENTION from the Mick Price & Michael Kent stable.

The colt finished behind his main rival here when the pair clashed in the 1600m Group 1 Caulfield Guineas at Caulfield in October.

This son of Written Tycoon was spelled following that effort and he returned to action with an impressive win in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes over 1200m here earlier this month.

The extra 200m the colt tackles here is no issue and, with Joshua Parr up, he looks capable of returning to winning ways.
