Australian Racing: Plenty of love for Amor Victorious

The Group 1 Coolmore Classic is the feature race on Saturday with the Rosehill contest worth $1,000,000 one of seven Group races at the Sydney venue.

There’s plenty of racing elsewhere however with Ascot, Morphettville Parks, Caulfield and Eagle Farm among the tracks set to race.

Semana for Coolmore glory

A field of 18 have been declared for the previously mentioned Group 1 Coolmore Classic over 1500m with Zougotcha expected to start favourite.

The filly ended her last spell with a sixth in the Group 2 Golden Pendant over 1400m at this venue in September.

The four-year-old was beaten over five-and-a-half-lengths in an eight-runner contest that day and she had a couple of barrier trials prior to returning over 1300m here last month.

Chris Waller’s filly made a winning return to action when delivering a near length victory in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes over 1300m on a soft 6 track.

James McDonald, on board that day is again in the saddle, however SEMANA is the pick here having won each of her last two starts.

The first of those wins saw the filly come home two-lengths clear of her rivals in a 1400m Listed contest at Gold Coast in January.

The pick switched to Sydney to deliver a victory by just less than half-a-length in the Group 3 Robrick Lodge Triscay Stakes over 1300m at Randwick last month.

While the selection raced on a soft 5 track last time, the switch to a sound surface is no issue and she is taken to defy a wide barrier to record her first win at the highest level.

Fine for Sky High success

Earlier on the Rosehill card the Group 3 James Squire Sky High Stakes is set to take place over 2000m as the fifth race of the day.

The Chris Waller team look to hold a strong hand here with their representative Lindermann likely to prove popular with punters.

The gelding failed to shine when sixth in a Group 2 over 1400m at Randwick, when racing first up this prep.

However, he took a step forward when two-and-a-half-lengths third in the Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes over 1600m at Randwick subsequently.

The four-year-old won the Rosehill Guineas at this track just under a year ago and, while he looks to hold strong claims, JUST FINE is the selection in this event.

The pick showed good form at the highest level when taking out the Group Metropolitan over 2400m on a good 4 track at Randwick at the end of September.

The six-year-year-old has failed to beat a rival home in two subsequent starts, however, it’s of note that the second of those came when racing first up.

That first up effort came in the Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes over 1600m at Randwick and he is expected to have improved for that effort with the extra distance here a positive.

Amor for Ajax victory

The final Group race on the Rosehill card is the 1500m Group 2 Ajax Stakes for horses aged three-years-old-and-up.

AMOR VICTORIOUS has shown a liking for this track and trip in the past and arrives here in good form having won both starts this prep.

The first of those starts saw the four-year-old record an impressive victory in a Benchmark 78 handicap over 1400m at Randwick in January.

The pick duly followed up by nearly three lengths when contesting a 1600m event at the same venue last month.

Both of those efforts came on wet tracks, however, the gelding is equally at home on a sound surface and looks up to providing Rachel King with a winner racing off a low weight.
