Australian Racing Preview – Unique Prince to surprise Dame at Goulburn

There's just the two meetings to look at on Monday with Armidale and Goulburn set to race.

Race 4 Goulburn

Unique Prince

Race 7 Goulburn

Queen Astrid

Race 4 Armidale

Cyber Attack

Prince to score at Goulburn

Iconic Dame looks likely to jump as an odds-on favourite for the fourth at Goulburn. The race in question is a 1300m Class 4 handicap with a soft 5 track forecast.

Jamie Stewart's filly has finished held in Class 3 metro company on both starts this spell.

Most recent of those came when sixth over 1200m at Rosehill earlier this month. That contest was held on a heavy 8 surface.

She gets an ease to country level for this contest which is in her favour. The barrier draw could have been kinder with Tyler Schiller's mount jumping from ten on this occasion.

She's yet to tackle this distance so the Nicconi filly has to prove her stamina and Unique Prince is preferred.

The selection showed good form when winning over 1200m at Narrandera last July. He encountered a good 4 track when taking out that Class 2 contest.

He's been off the track since finishing down the field over this trip at Benchmark 70 level at Canterbury five days later.

He has run well first up in the past including when third at Wagga first up last spell. While the gelding would ideally prefer quicker ground, he should have no issue with a soft 5 surface.

He's well drawn three off the rail trainer Matthew Dale boasts an impressive 43% strike-rate (6/14) here in the last year. Versatile tactics wise, the pick is taken to deliver a victory with Jeff Penza in the saddle.

Queen to break maiden

The finale at Goulburn is a competitive looking 1400m maiden contest.

The Peter and Paul Snowden team saddle three-year-old Ballon Bleu in the 15 runner contest.

Ballon Bleu has finished in the first four on each of her last four starts. She came home just over a length third in a 1400m maiden at Hawkesbury on her penultimate start.

She had today's rider Robbie Dolan in the saddle that day. Dolan was absent however when the Written Tycoon filly came home fourth over 1400m at Warwick Farm earlier this month.

Being drawn widest of all here is a negative and Queen Astrid is selected on this occasion.

The selection finished one place behind Ballon Bleu when the pair met in the previously mentioned Warwick Farm contest.

Mark Newnham's charge took a step forward that day following a debut eighth over 1250m at Canterbury last month.

Queen Astrid has a kilogram swing at the weights for this contest. A draw in seven is fair and the Sebring filly can provide jockey Tyler Schiller with a winner.

Cyber to score at Armidale

Two last start winners go to post for the fourth at Armidale. The race is a 1300m Class 2 contest with the horses in question Koondeeman and Spirit Of Pluto.

The former has won at the track while Todd Payne's Spirit Of Pluto placed on his only previous start here.

Cyber Attack is less exposed than the pair however having made just three previous starts.

The Exosphere gelding debut with a good fourth over 1200m at Warwick Farm just over a year ago. Absent for over 11 months thereafter he returned with a win in an 1100m maiden here last month.

He made all the running in that contest and had no issue stepping up to 1200m when runner-up at Inverell subsequently.

He now drops from a Class 3 to a Class 2 contest here and the extra 100m here looks likely to suit. Brooke Stower knows the selection well and the pair are taken to record a second victory together.
