Australian Racing Preview: Freedman’s He Is to score at Doomben

There’s five meetings due to take place on Wednesday including a metro fixture from Doomben.

Race 6 Doomben

He Is @ 11/1

Race 7 Gosford

Allusionist @ 7/1

Race 2 Geraldton

Passion Prince @ 5/2

He Is the pick at Doomben

The sixth on the Doomben card is a competitive Benchmark 68 contest. A soft 5 track is forecast for the 1650m contest with Tidal Creek expected to prove popular in the market.

Annabel Neasham’s charge has run well on all three starts this spell. Stepped up on a couple of fourth place finishes when a close second at Benchmark 72 level at Warwick farm earlier this month. That Warwick Farm effort came over 1600m while the gelding has run well over further in the past.

The drop in grade here is a positive with promising claimer Angela Jones taking the ride. Trainer Lee Freedman does well here with a 22% strike-rate (5/23) at this track in the last year.

His representative He Is is selected to get the better of Tidal Creek on this occasion. The six-year-old placed on a soft 6 surface in a Benchmark 65 event at Ipswich first up this spell.

Held twice subsequently but returned to form with a close second over 1535m in a Benchmark 65 race at Ipswich just over a month ago. Freshened up since that Ipswich run the son of Pierro has won half of his four starts over this distance. Jockey Tegan Harrison knows the selection well and the pair are taken to register a third victory together.

Allusionist for Gosford success

Gosford stage an 1100m Benchmark 64 event as the concluding race on their seven race card. Adam Duggan’s I’ll Tell You Now looks likely to start favourite. The four-year-old won twice, including over this track and trip prior to a seventh over 1000m here earlier this month.

Beauty can seal Guineas victory

Beaten less than two lengths last time out the four-year-old won at this Benchmark 64 level on his penultimate start. He rates a worthy favourite with Joshua Parr, on board for his last two starts again in the saddle.

While yet to win first up Allusionist has placed on two of his three previous first up starts. The latest of those came came when third in an 1100m Class 1 event at Wyong in July last year.

Showed a liking for wet tracks when successful on a heavy 9 over 1300m at Hawkesbury later that spell. Ended his last spell with a below par tenth in a Benchmark 72 event over this trip at Warwick Farm in October.

The return to a Benchmark 64 event is a positive here as is the drop back from metro racing. Versatile tactically a draw in eight should prove no issue and he looks up to scoring for Richard and Will Freedman.

Prince to rule at Geraldton

The second at Geraldton plays host to our third selection of the day. The race in question is a 1900m Class 2 handicap with a good 4 track expected.

Passion Prince delivered fair efforts on his first two starts this spell. The second of those came when sixth over 1600m in a Class 3 event at Pinjarra Scarpside earlier this month.

Subsequently followed that up with a half-length second in a 1600m Benchmark 58+ contest at this venue. That effort marked his first at this track and he shaped as if he would appreciate the step up in distance.

Useful claimer Brayden Gaerth, on board that day takes the ride here with the Savabeel gelding taken to deliver a third career success.
