Hopon Harry @ 12/5

Nicc for Flemington success

The penultimate race on Flemington's seven race card is an open looking Benchmark 70 race. The 1100m contest has attracted a field of 18 with Propice likely to have his supporters.

Lee Hope's charge sole victory came over 1000m on a good 4 track here in February 2020. Successful on a good 4 track that day he returned to Australia this spell having raced in Hong Kong.

He delivered a runner-up finish in a Benchmark 70 event over 1000m at Sandown Hillside first up but could finish only fourth when beaten over five-and-a-half-lengths over this track and trip subsequently.

The five-year-old looks opposable over this distance with Red Hot Nicc preferred.

The selection has delivered some fair efforts in defeat this spell. The best of those came when runner-up over 955m at Moonee Valley when racing first up in November.

Notably, the four-year-old has shown a liking for this course and distance in the past. He placed second twice when racing at this level over course and distance in his last spell.

He comes into this event on the back of a fair fifth over 1000m at this level last month. Good 4 ground is in his favour while jockey Zac Spain knows the pick well.

Distillate can score at Canterbury

Latenighttoughguy looks likely to jump as favourite for the sixth race at Canterbury. The race in question is an 1100m Benchmark 72 contest with a good 4 track forecast.

Chirs Waller's charge failed to score in seven starts at Happy Valley in Hong Kong in 2021. The son of Written Tycoon got his career back on track however with a Benchmark 64 win over 1000m at Gosford last month.

That Gosford victory took his Australian record to two wins from two starts. James McDonald takes the ride but, stepping up in grade, Distillate is preferred.

Matthew Dale's charge won three times last year. All three of those triumphs came on wet tracks, including twice on heavy going.

She has good form on a sound surface however including winning twice from eight starts on good ground.

The five-year-old mare boasts a two wins from four starts first up record. She failed to score at Moonee Valley first up last spell however but was unable to dominate that day.

Well drawn in four here the daughter of Dissident looks capable of scoring under apprentice Jenny Duggan.

Harry to complete double

Saskatoon is one of five last-start winners engaged in the third at Murray Bridge Gh. The Benchmark 82 event is set to take place over 1600m with a good 4 surface forecast.

Saskatoon was completing a double when winning over 1400m here last start. That victory came at Benchmark 76 level having previously won by a narrow margin at Morphetville Parks.

He tackles this distance for the first time here and is expected to find Hopon Harry too strong.

The top weight has won twice already this spell. The most recent of those triumphs came over this trip at Morphetville in a Benchmark 82 event.

Good 4 going is no issue having won three times from nine starts on tracks rated good.

A draw seven off the rail is no issue with the pick expected to slot in behind the early pacesetters.

Claimer Ellis Wong knows what it takes to win here and looks capable of steering the selection to glory.
