Australian Racing: Randwick contender is Speed Personified

There are seven meetings set to take place on Wednesday including metro meetings at Randwick Kensington, Sandown Hillside, Doomben and Launceston.

Race 9 Pinjarra

Ghost Who Walks @ 7.50

Race 3 Randwick Kensington

Speed Personified @ 1.90

Race 4 Sandown

Reddivo @ 5.50

Ghost for Andretti glory

While there’s plenty of metro action on Wednesday, the most valuable race of the day is the 1200m Listed Miss Andretti Stakes at Pinjarra.

The race, set to take place as the ninth contest on a 10-race card, has attracted a field of 10 with Wild Belle expected to start a short priced favourite for trainer Luke Fernie.

The filly has registered some solid efforts in the past, including when placing third in the valuable Placid Ark Stakes over this trip at Ascot in November 2022.

While the four-year-old failed to place in two starts in Melbourne in March last year, she caught the eye when a length fourth in the 1000m Listed Summer Scorcher here on her seasonal debut.

The extra distance is a positive here, however, the winner that day GHOST WHO WALKS is preferred on this occasion.

The six-year-old has shown good form at Listed level in the past, including when winning Belmont Park’s Beaufine Stakes when racing on a soft 5 track in July last year.

The son of God Has Spoken came within a head of registering a Group 3 success at Ascot, when racing first up this spell in the 1100m Colonel Reeves Stakes in November.

Regular pilot Kesha Dhurun is again in the saddle here and his mount looks capable of completing a double, while jumping from next to the rail.

Speed for Super Maiden victory

The third race at Randwick Kensington is a $100,000 1150m maiden contest set to take place on a soft 7 surface.

The gelding Side Show is expected to prove popular with punters, having debuted with a fourth in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes over 1200m on the main course here in February last year.

While unable to break his maiden in three subsequent starts, he has delivered two placed efforts at Newcastle and has been spelled since a below-par seventh at Rosehill in September.

However, Chris Waller’s filly SPEED PERSONIFIED is the selection here, having shown plenty of ability in her barrier trials prior to making her debut.

Those barrier trial efforts included a victory over 900m at Rosehill last month and she registered a solid third over 1100m when debuting at Canterbury on 5th January.

James McDonald is a positive jockey booking for the daughter of Capitalist here and, with a good barrier two from the rail, she looks capable of breaking her maiden at the second attempt.

Reddivo for Sandown success

The fourth race at Sandown is an interesting 3000m Benchmark 70 handicap.

A good 4 surface is forecast for the 11 runner contest with REDDIVO taking the eye for the Jamie Edwards’ stable.

The five-year-old registered a victory in a 2700m Benchmark 64 handicap at Werribee three starts back.

The pick came home over four lengths clear of her rivals under her jockey Daniel Moor on that occasion, while Moor has been on board for both subsequent starts.

Both of those efforts came at Moonee Valley including when disappointing when a well held fifth over 3000m in a Benchmark 70 handicap 15th December.

The selection came within two lengths of returning to the winners enclosure when defying a slow start to place second in a similar contest over the same track and trip later that month.

A wide barrier shouldn’t pose too many issues over this distance and the Redwood gelding under Moor is selected to record his third career win.
