Australian Racing: Royal Radiance in the hunt for Muswellbrook crown

There are just two meetings scheduled to take place on Monday with both Muswellbrook and Mornington set to host racing action.

Race 5 Muswellbrook

Royal Radiance @ 5.50

Race 8 Muswellbrook

Reggie’s Boy @ 3.00

Race 6 Mornington

Moonhaven @ 3.20

Radiance to return with win

The fifth race on the Muswellbrook card is an interesting 1000m Class 1 handicap set to take place on a heavy 9 surface.

Twilight Rock is expected to have his supporters having shown a liking for wet tracks in the past.

The gelding came home six lengths clear of his rivals when racing on a heavy 8 track in a 1310m maiden at Lismore back in December.

The four-year-old has registered third place finishes in all bar one of his six subsequent starts, including when beaten four lengths over 1350m at Ipswich last month.

While Brett Cavanough has freshened his representative, his best form has come over further and he looks opposable in this contest.

Jenny Duggan’s mount ROYAL RADIANCE is the pick here, with improvement shown after just five career starts to date.

The first of those saw her finish three-lengths fourth in a 1200m maiden at Tamworth in February last year.

The pick was spelled following a sixth over the same track and trip 16 days later and she resumed at Taree at the start of January.

That Taree race saw the daughter of Hallowed Crown deliver a victory by just under a length in a 1000m maiden held on a wet track.

Two fourth-place finishes have followed, most recently in a 1200m Benchmark 58 handicap, when jumping from a wide alley back at Tamworth in February.

The four-year-old returns from a spell here and, jumping from barrier eight and dropping in distance, she looks capable of resuming with a win.

Boy to stay unbeaten at Muswellbrook

The penultimate race at Muswellbrook is a 1280m Benchmark 74 handicap, with the Annabel Neasham-trained Beauty Rising expected to feature prominently in the betting.

The three-year-old has raced mostly at metro level, including finishing runner-up in a 1420m Benchmark 64 handicap at Flemington in September.

The filly raced on a good track that day and has registered just two subsequent appearances, including when resuming with a sixth at Randwick Kensington on 25th April.

The youngster was beaten nearly nine lengths into sixth when contesting a nine runner Benchmark 68 handicap event that day and improvement is expected.

A wide alley is a concern here however and REGGIE’S BOY is selected to register his fifth career win.

The five-year-old is unbeaten in three starts at this venue, with the most recent of those coming by half-a-length when contesting a track and trip Class 3 event on 21st April.

The selection was successful on a heavy 9 surface that day with the third home boosting the form with a win at Newcastle earlier this month.

The pick went on to register a good third when contesting a six runner Benchmark 68 handicap over 1350m at Wyong subsequently.

The son of Your Song was bumped on exiting the barriers that day, with the winner going on to follow up at Newcastle last week.

The return to this venue is in the gelding’s favour and he is selected to provide jockey Mitch Stapleford with a winner.

Moonhaven for Mornington victory

The sixth race on the Mornington card takes the eye, with MOONHAVEN the selection to register a win in the 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap.

Trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman, the gelding broke his maiden when racing first up in an 1170m Wangaratta contest last prep.

The gelding went on to place third when racing over the same course and distance in a Benchmark 58 handicap held on a wet track at the start of January.

The son of Shalaa has been spelled since, finishing fifth upped to 1330m when contesting a Benchmark 58 handicap at Geelong later that month.

Billy Egan, on board for the pick’s two most recent starts, is again in the saddle with the pair looking up to recording their first win together.
