Australian Racing: Savvy Bee can sting Gatton rivals

There are four meetings set to take place on Tuesday and we have three selections to consider.

Race 7 Kyneton

Thargomindah @ 7.50

Race 5 Grafton

Majorelle @ 2.80

Race 6 Gatton

Savvy Bee @ 3.40

Thargomindah for Kyneton victory

The seventh race of the day at Kyneton is a 1112m Benchmark 58 handicap restricted to fillies and mares.

A soft 6 track is expected for the sprint contest, with Strangeless expected to jump as favourite to record her second win of 2024.

This mare came home over a length clear of her rivals when taking out a 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap at Seymour in July.

The five-year-old raced on a heavy 8 track that day and has finished fourth in each of her last three starts.

Those starts include a defeat by just over five lengths, racing over 1000m when competing at Benchmark 64 level at Mornington at the end of last month.

Dylan Dunn’s representative holds obvious claims here, however, preference is for the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained THARGOMINDAH.

The filly won each of her first two starts, including when debuting with a win over 1000m at Dunkeld in November last year.

Thargomindah duly followed up when saluting by two lengths in an 1103m Benchmark 58 handicap held on a good 3 track at this venue when racing first up in March.

The daughter of Reward For Effort has been out of luck since, however it’s of note that her three subsequent efforts have all come in tougher contests than she tackles here.

Two of those starts came at metro-level, while she has been spelled since finishing 11th in a 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap at Cranbourne in May.

The four-year-old arrives here on the back of a trial effort at Pakenham at the start of this month and she is taken to register her third first up success.

Majorelle to salute at Grafton

Grafton are set to stage a seven-race card with the fifth contest of the day a 1125m Benchmark 82 handicap set to take place on a soft 5 surface.

Teighan Worsnop’s mount Moskeeta is expected to prove popular, having shown a liking for this venue in 2024.

Moskeeta has registered two wins and a second from four starts here in 2024, with her most recent win coming by a narrow margin over 1205m here in June.

The six-year-old took out a Benchmark 66 handicap on that occasion and she returns from a spell in this event.

However, it’s of note that the mare improved for her return to action last prep and with that in mind, MAJORELLE is the pick for the Matthew Dunn team.

The gelding is the winner of two of his four starts this prep, including when racing from the front prior to scoring by nearly a length at Lismore on his penultimate start.

Majorelle jumped at short odds for an 1120m Benchmark 82 handicap held on a soft 5 track that day and similar underfoot conditions are expected for this event.

The drop to country-level racing is a positive here, with the son of Zoustar finishing fourth in a metro event over 1110m at Doomben when last in action earlier this month.

Andrew Mallyon, on board for each of the selection’s last three starts, is again set to ride and his mount looks up to overcoming a wide barrier to record his eighth career win.

Bee for Gatton glory

The sixth race at Gatton is a 1400m Benchmark 60 handicap expected to take place on a soft 5 track.

SAVVY BEE takes the eye here for the Mark Currie stable, with the mare having demonstrated good placed form when runner-up twice in February.

Those second place finishes included a defeat by less than a length in a Restricted 64 handicap, with the mare spelled following a last-of-eight finish at Ballarat in April.

The daughter of Savabeel resumed with a good second, beaten just under four lengths when racing over 1300m at Toowoomba earlier this month.

Savvy Bee contested a Benchmark 58 handicap held on a good 4 track on that occasion and racing off a nice weight, she is taken to return to winning ways.
