Australian Racing: Silvakia set for win number two

There’s three meetings due to take place on Tuesday with Wyong, Stawell and Townsville all set to race.

Race 1 Wyong

Silvakia @ 11/4

Race 2 Stawell

Hughie @ 6/5

Race 9 Townsville

Air Blue @ 4/1

Silvakia for Wyong success

The opening race on the Wyong card is a 1600m Class 1 handicap contest. A good 4 track is expected with John O’Shea’s Condrieu expected to start as favourite. The five-year-old is lightly-raced for one her age having made just the two appearances so far.

Sawnoff to break maiden at third attempt

Nature Strip eyes Group 1 glory

The daughter of Sebring debuted with a close up third in a 1400m maiden on a soft 7 track at Newcastle back in September. Condrieu proved that quicker going was no issue when saluting over 1400m in a Goulburn maiden on a good 4 track here earlier this month.

The mare jumps from barrier eight here with Silvakia preferred for the Mark Newnham stable. Silvakia debuted with a victory in a 1300m maiden on a soft 6 surface at Hawkesbury in July last year.

The selection made all the running on that occasion but proved that she can go well when racing from off the pace when runner-up last time out. That effort, when beaten less than a length in a Class 1 handicap on good 4 track over this trip at Goulburn on February 5 marked her best effort in four starts since that maiden triumph.

Tyler Schiller’s mount is well drawn in three here and is taken to record a second career success.

Hughie to break maiden

Hughie showed plenty of ability when making his debut at Warnambool and takes the eye in the second race on the Stawell card. The race in question is an 1107m maiden plate with a soft 5 surface forecast.

Trained by Symon Wilde Hughie raced close to the pace in the previously mentioned Warnambool contest. The selection led in the straight prior to suffering a near one-and-a-half-length defeat at the hands of a fellow debutant in Mawallock.

Mawallock has boosted the form since with a victory at the same venue on Monday while third home Sevillana placed second in a maiden plate on the same card.

Hughie is expected to have improved for that debut experience and while a wide draw in 12 is far from ideal he sets the standard on form and looks up to delivering a victory at the second time of asking.

Blue for Townsville success

The ninth at Townsville is a competitive looking 1000m Class 1 handicap. Kiss Goodbye is expected to prove popular with punters having shown a liking for the forecast soft going when debuting with a victory in a 1000m maiden at Sunshine Coast in March last year.

Followed that effort up with a runner-up finish on the synthetic track at Sunshine Coast and she tackles an easier event than when down the field in a Benchmark 68 contest at Doomben last July.

Spelled since that Doomben effort she gets an easier contest on her first start for handler Georgina Bourke however she has a wide barrier to overcome. With the barrier in mind stablemate Air Blue is preferred with Jackson Murphy in the saddle.

The pick has shown good form of late finishing placed at this venue on his last two starts. The second of those came when runner-up at Class 2 level in a 1200m contest on a good 4 surface on February 11.

The shorter distance here is no issue having placed third when beaten a neck in a similar race to this over this track and trip prior. Jackson Murphy on board for both of those efforts is again in the saddle and the selection looks up to doubling his career tally from barrier three.
