Australian Racing: Silver Glitter catches the eye at Rockhampton

There are five meetings for punters to get involved with on Thursday including at Rockhampton where a 12-race card is scheduled.

Race 8 Rockhampton

Silver Glitter @ 5.50

Race 6 Hawkesbury

Final Reset @ 7.00

Race 5 Pakenham

Dakarai @ 4.00

Glitter for Plate glory

The most valuable race on the Rockhampton card is the eighth race of the day, a $150,000 contest restricted to two-year-old’s and set to be contested over 1200m.

Georgina Bourke saddles Margot Barbie here, with the filly having gained plenty of experience since debuting with a second at Townsville in October.

The daughter of Wandjina who won twice since then, with the most recent of those victories coming by a narrow margin over 1000m at Townsville last month.

Jackson Murphy’s mount won on a good 4 track that day but the softer conditions expected here are no issue and she is expected to have her supporters.

SILVER GLITTER is preferred on this occasion with the Tom Button-trained filly open to improvement after just three starts.

The pick was spelled having suffered a defeat when jumping as favourite for the previously mentioned Townsville maiden back in October.

However, she made no mistake when getting off the mark having switched to a soft 7 track over the same course and distance, when resuming in February.

Glitter came home two-and-a-half-lengths clear of her rivals, having raced prominently from a wide barrier that day.

Although she did lose out by a narrow margin to Margot Barbie when runner-up over the same track and trip at Townsville last month on her only subsequent start.

With the step up in distance expected to suit, she is taken to reverse that form to register her second career win.

Reset for Hawkesbury success

The sixth race at Hawkesbury is a competitive looking 2000m Benchmark 64 handicap set to take place on a good 4 surface.

Heavelon Van Der Hoven is due to ride Kingdom Of Logres here, with the pair expected to jump as favourites following two solid efforts in defeat this prep.

Those efforts both came on wet tracks, including when beaten just over a length into fourth in an 1850m Benchmark 64 handicap at Newcastle earlier this month.

The four-year-old should have no issues with the extra 150m he tackles here, having gone well over this trip on a sound surface at Kembla Grange in June last year.

However, preference on this occasion is for FINAL RESET, one of two runners in the race for trainer Matthew Smith.

The four-year-old came home third in the previously mentioned Newcastle contest, having won by half-a-length over 1600m at Canberra prior to that.

He was racing first up when taking out a Class 1 set weights event held on a soft 7 surface at Canberra, when making his first start since October in the process.

A good 4 track forecast here is no issue for the gelding, who was beaten by a narrow margin in similar conditions in a Class 1 set weights affair at Canberra in September.

Final Reset raced over the 2000m distance he tackles here that day, while he broke his maiden over this distance at Kembla Grange three starts later.

Tyler Schiller takes the ride for the first time here and he looks up to steering the son of Reset to victory.

Dakarai to salute at Pakenham

The fifth race at Pakenham is an interesting contest with Wendy Kelly’s DAKARAI taking the eye in the 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap.

He has won two of his four starts this prep, including by less than half-a-length in a 1200m Restricted 64 handicap here earlier this month.

On that occasion, he raced on a soft 6 surface, having failed to shine at metro level when ninth of 10 over the same distance at Sandown Lakeside prior.

The four-year-old’s other win this prep saw him triumph by over four lengths in a 1200m maiden held on a good 4 track at Mornington when racing first up.

Blake Shinn’s mount looks ready for this step up in distance and, having run well over the trip in the past, he looks up to completing a double.
