Australian Racing: Singing Star to shine at Scone

There are six meetings scheduled to take place on Thursday, including at Wangaratta where eight races are programmed.

Race 6 Wangaratta

Our Emmbar @ 3.40

Race 4 Scone

Singing Star @ 5.00

Race 6 Albury

Helluva Teen @ 3.60

Our Emmbar for Wangaratta success

The sixth race of the day at Wangaratta is an interesting fillies & mares Benchmark 58 handicap set to be held over just short of 1600m.

Trainer Gerald Egan is set to saddle Kilkenny Lass here with his mare having demonstrated improved form this prep.

The five-year-old returned to action with a victory by just under one-and-a-half-lengths when contesting a 1400m maiden held on a good 4 track at Albury.

Kilkenny Lass proved that she can handle racing against previous winners, when a good third over 1600m in a Benchmark 58 handicap at Kilmore last month.

While Lachlan King’s mount holds obvious claims here, preference is for OUR EMMBAR who is another to have broken her maiden this prep.

The daughter of Dundeel was beaten less than a length in maiden company when contesting a 1243m event at Geelong and she broke through for her first win at Mornington next time.

A change of tactics saw Our Emmbar race from the front when coming home nearly two lengths clear of her four rivals stepped up to 1500m for the first time that day.

Trained by Leon & Troy Corstens & Will Larkin, the filly came close to following up when ridden with slightly more restraint prior to finishing runner-up at Great Western subsequently.

Our Emmbar contested a 1600m Restricted 58 handicap held on a good 3 track at Great Western and she looks up to going one better here.

Singing Star to shine at Scone

The fourth race of the day at Scone is a 1000m Benchmark 64 handicap event.

A good 4 track is expected with Oceans One expected to have his supporters given he boasts a good second up record.

The six-year-old has twice won second up in the past, while he lost out narrowly when runner-up in a 1000m Benchmark 68 handicap at Kembla Grange when racing second up last prep.

The gelding failed to shine when resuming with a 10th at $31 over 1100m at Canterbury last month and he drops in grade here having raced at Benchmark 72 level that day.

Edward O’Rouke’s gelding is the winner of his only previous start at this venue and, while he rates highly off top weight, he is expected to find at least one too good.

Damien Lane-trained SINGING STAR is the pick here, having registered solid third-place finishes in two of his last three starts.

The first of those saw him lose out narrowly when contesting an 1100m Class 2 handicap held on a good 3 track at Coonamble in October.

Singing Star finished down the field when jumping at $101 for a stronger event down the straight at Flemington next time.

While only six ran in her latest outing at Dubbo, the filly performed well in finishing two lengths behind the winner when contesting a Benchmark 66 handicap on a wet track.

The daughter of Star Turn hasn’t been seen in race action since that outing just over two months ago and she is taken to register a win following a close second in a Wyong barrier trial.

Helluva Teen to record Albury win

The penultimate race on the Albury card is a 1000m Class 2 handicap.

HELLUVA TEEN has demonstrated solid this time around, including when recording his first placed effort on turf when runner-up at Queanbeyan in December.

The three-year-old was beaten just over a length that day and duly broke her maiden when saluting by two-and-a-half-lengths in a 1000m event at Orange 12 days later.

Helluva Teen raced on a good 4 track on each occasion and again encountered a sound surface when going in by half-a-length in a 950m Benchmark 58 handicap at Cowra last time.

Glenn Cahill takes a valuable two-kilograms off and, with a good barrier two from the rail, the daughter of Hellbent is selected to continue her winning run.
