There are five meetings scheduled for Wednesday including four metro fixtures with Canterbury, Sandown, Sunshine Coast and Belmont all set to race.
Dschingis Prestige @ 5.50
Denman Star @ 9.00
Antique Star @ 3.20
They race on the Hillside track at Sandown with the fifth race of the day a competitive looking 2400m Benchmark 78 handicap.
A soft 6 track is expected here, with Captain Electric expected to jump as favourite for the Andrea Leek stable.
The four-year-old has won twice this prep, including when resuming with a maiden win over 1600m at Moe last month.
Captain Electric registered the second win of his career when coming home nearly two-lengths clear of his rivals over this distance in a handicap event at Caulfield.
The drop back in distance saw the son of Savabeel finish runner-up when racing in a Benchmark 70 handicap over the Cox Plate track and trip when last in action earlier this month.
While the return to 2400m is a positive here, preference is for the ex-French performer DSCHINGIS PRESTIGE.
The five-year-old won three times over this distance in France prior to switching hemispheres.
While the gelding recorded just one placed effort from his first four starts since making the switch, he showed good form when third over this track and trip last month.
The selection had been freshened prior to that effort, which came when racing at Benchmark 70 level on a soft 6 surface.
Symon Wilde’s representative went on to place third in a 2500m Benchmark 78 handicap, when encountering similar underfoot conditions at Moonee Valley earlier this month.
Blake Shinn’s mount has forecast underfoot conditions to suit and he looks up to recording his first Australian win.
The penultimate race on Canterbury’s seven-race card is a 1250m Benchmark 72 handicap set to take place on a good 4 surface.
Flying Destiny is expected to have his supporters, as he jumps from an inside barrier in this contest.
The gelding has finished in the first three in each of his last three starts, including when runner-up over this track and trip in a similar race to this on his penultimate start.
The four-year-old duly went one better when making all in a track and trip contest on a good 4 track subsequently and he rates highly with a promising apprentice set to ride.
Angela Davies is set to saddle DENMAN STAR here, with the gelding stepping up in grade following a victory in a Benchmark 64 handicap at Newcastle earlier this month.
Denman Star came home a length clear of his rivals when racing over this distance on a soft 5 track on that occasion.
The four-year-old was hampered early on when winning that Benchmark 64 contest and raced from off the pace as a result.
Denman Star had previously encountered similar underfoot conditions when triumphing by a length in a 1200m Class 1 handicap at the same venue when racing first up last month.
The son of Denman has an inside barrier here and, while any softening of the going would be appreciated, he looks up to completing a hat-trick.
The fourth race of the day at Belmont plays host to our third selection of the day, with a field of 12 set to line up for a 1650m Class 1 handicap.
ANTIQUE STAR demonstrated good form at this track when losing out by a narrow margin in a 1400m maiden in February.
The pick recorded a decent fifth at Pinjarra subsequently, prior to being spelled by connections.
Antique Star placed second in her first two starts this time around, prior to breaking through for a victory in a 1695m maiden at Bunbury just under two weeks ago.
The selection wore a visor for the first time at Bunbury, while it’s of note that she has raced on wet tracks in all three starts this prep.
Michael Grantham’s filly should have no issues facing previous winners for the first time and she is taken to complete a double.
