Australian Racing: Verona Rose can bloom at Wyong

There are six meetings set to take place on Thursday including at Wyong, where eight races are scheduled.

Race 7 Wyong

Verona Rose @ 3.80

Race 7 Pakenham

Privalova @ 6.00

Race 2 Bunbury

Lombadina @ 1.90

Rose for Wyong success

The penultimate race at Wyong is a 1350m Benchmark 64 handicap expected to take place on a good 4 track.

Horizons is expected to jump as favourite for the Richard & Will Freedman team, having registered her first victory when last in action back in October.

This filly came home over a length clear of her rivals when contesting a 1600m maiden that day, having finished fifth over 1400m on the Kensington track at Randwick on her penultimate start.

The daughter of The Autumn Sun has had a couple of barrier trials ahead of her return to action, taking a step forward when successful over 1030m at Rosehill and she holds obvious claims.

Fellow three-year-old filly VERONA ROSE is preferred on this occasion, having made the perfect start to her career when saluting at Kembla Grange in November.

Verona Rose jumped at $21 when coming home in front of her 12 races when contesting a 1300m maiden held on a soft 5 track that day.

The form of that contest looks solid enough with the third, fifth and sixth all registering subsequent victories.

Verona Rose arrives here on the back of a sixth in an 822m barrier trial at the end of last month and she is taken to maintain her unbeaten record jumping from an inside alley.

Privalova to register Pakenham win

They are set to race on a good 4 surface at Pakenham with the seventh race a 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap.

Blake Shinn enjoyed success on board Matawai on the Lakeside track at Sandown in August and he is booked to ride the filly here.

The four-year-old took out a 16-runner 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap held on a good 4 track that day and she tackles a similar event here.

A narrow defeat when fourth in a 1500m Benchmark 70 handicap on the Hillside course back at Sandown subsequently and she was spelled following a Mornington fifth in September.

While the filly arrives here on the back of a Geelong barrier trial triumph, PRIVALOVA is preferred for jockey Luke Currie in this event.

The daughter of Russian Revolution hails from the in-form Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young team and she broke through for her first win at Kilmore just under a month ago.

Privalova came home nearly two-and-a-half-lengths clear of her rivals when contesting a 1200m maiden on a good 4 track on that occasion.

The three-year-old was returning from a spell when delivering a comfortable success that day and she stepped up to metro level racing at Moonee Valley at the end of last month.

Privalova was beaten less than two lengths when placing fourth in a 1200m Benchmark 64 handicap on that occasion and is expected to do better here.

Lombadina to resume with win

In Western Australia they are set to race at Bunbury with the second race a 1200m Class 1 handicap.

A good 4 track is expected for the race, with LOMBADINA having shown solid form at this venue when runner-up in a 1400m Class 1 handicap here in August.

The four-year-old raced on a soft 7 track that day with the forecast going here no issue, having previously demonstrated form on a sound surface.

Michael Grantham’s filly prepared for this contest with a solid second in a 1000m barrier trial at Pinjarra Scarpside last month.

Clint Johnston-Porter rides the filly for the first time since the pair saluted in maiden company at Pinjarra Scarpside in March last year and his mount is taken to double her career tally.
