Australian Racing: Wild Pharaoh to rule at Ballarat

There are four meetings set to take place on Thursday, including at Hawkesbury where eight races are scheduled.

Race 8 Hawkesbury

Cash Me @ 7.00

Rac 6 Northam

Lord Shiva @ 2.70

Race 4 Ballarat

Wild Pharaoh @ 8.00

Cash for Hawkesbury glory

The concluding race on the Hawkesbury card is a 1500m Benchmark 68 handicap contest.

A soft 6 surface is expected, with Fugitiva set to have her supporters having won three of her four starts since resuming with a third at Kembla Grange in June.

Two of those victories have come on wet tracks, including when getting home by a narrow margin over 1400m on a heavy 8 surface at Kembla Grange earlier this month.

The daughter of Supido contested a Benchmark 64 handicap that day, having finished sixth in a similar race to this over 1300m at Newcastle prior.

This four-year-old steps up to this 1500m distance for the first time here and, while she rates highly, preference is for CASH ME.

The gelding is a winner already this prep, having delivered a second up success when saluting over 1400m in a Benchmark 68 handicap here last month.

Cash Me had previously been beaten over four lengths into fifth in a 1300m Benchmark 64 handicap at this track in August.

Both of those efforts came on good 4 surfaces, with that August outing marking the pick’s first in nearly a year.

The son of Pariah has a wide barrier here but the return to provincial level racing is a positive following a last in a Warwick Farm metro race last time.

Zac Waddick takes the ride here and dropping back from 1600m his mount looks capable of recording his second win of the year.

Shiva for Northam success

In Western Australia they are set to race at Northam, with the sixth race a 1000m Class 1 handicap set to take place on a soft 5 track.

Chris Stelmach’s Classic Ruler broke his maiden by a narrow margin over 1214m at Bunbury in June.

The gelding registered a couple of solid efforts subsequently and is expected to feature prominently in the betting.

This four-year-old is set to make his first start since being beaten just over two lengths in a 1200m Class 1 handicap at Pinjarra Scarpside in July.

In form hoop William Pike is set to ride, however he looks opposable with LORD SHIVA preferred on this occasion.

Adam Durrant’s gelding has gone close in all three starts this prep, including when beaten just under one-and-a-half-length over 1000m at Belmont first up.

The pick proved he handles the forecasted soft 5 going when third in a Class 1 handicap that day and has been in action at this venue twice subsequently.

This four-year-old has placed second in both those starts, including when beaten less than half-a-length in a Class 1 handicap here last time.

Lord Shiva boasts an inside barrier in this contest and, with Brayden Gaerth taking one-and-a-half-kilograms off his back, he looks up to recording his second career win.

Pharaoh to rule at Ballarat

The fourth race at Ballarat is a 1200m Class 1 handicap contest expected to take place on a good 4 track.

WILD PHARAOH is one of three in the field to have delivered debut victories when last in action.

This daughter of American Pharaoh jumped from next to the rail when delivering a victory by just under half-a-length over 1206m at Benalla when debuting last month.

The runner-up that day has gone on to fill the same position at Cranbourne subsequently, with the pick expected to have improved for his debut experience.

Wild Pharaoh made all the running on debut, and with an inside barrier here, she looks up to employing similar tactics to complete a double.
