Australian Racing: Regal Pom set to dominate

There's plenty of racing action for punters on Saturday with the Group 2 Perth Cup at Ascot the feature race of the day.

Race 9 Ascot

Truly Inspired @ 9/2

Race 6 Flemington

Snapper @ 7/1

Race 5 Rosehill

Regal Pom @ 7/1

Inspired for Cup success

The feature race at Ascot is the Group 2 Perth Cup which is set to take place over 2400m with a soft 5 track forecast.

Alaskan God went unbeaten through five starts last spell. That run culminated in a near three-and-a-half-length win in the Group 2 W.A.T.C. Derby over this course and distance.

He delivered some respectable efforts without winning in four starts, with the most recent being when beaten by nearly four lengths over 2200m in an easier event here.

Given his hold up style of racing a wide draw here shouldn’t inconvenience him. He will be tackling soft going for the first time however and Truly Inspired is preferred on this occasion.

The picks trainer Adam Durrant has won this race twice in the past, most recently in 2019.

Australian Racing: Perusal eyes Cranbourne glory

Truly Inspired has shown progressive form this spell winning three of his last four starts. The latest of those came by a narrow margin in a 2200m Benchmark 84+ contest on a good 4 track here last month.

It appears there is more to come from Truly Inspired with the switch to soft going no issue here. Versatile tactically, the six-year-old should have no issue with being drawn in 11 for this contest.

Fred W Kersley’s mount has shown a liking for this track in the past and looks capable of registering a first Group race success.

Snapper to triumph at Flemington

Flemington plays host to the 1200m Group 3 Standish Handicap. The scratching of Regardsmaree leaves a field of 11 to go to post with Rose Quartz expected to start as favourite.

Grahame Begg’s charge finished down the field in the 1100m Group 3 Furphy Sprint here in October but has shown improved form at a slightly lower level since.

She steps back up to 1200m here following a close third in an 1100m contest at Sandown Hillside last month. While she’s shown a liking for this track and trip in the past Snapper is preferred off a low weight.

Michael Moroney’s representative delivered a victory over 1100m in a Benchmark 80 contest here on his penultimate start.

He subsequently finished seventh over this track and trip in a Benchmark 84 event. He was unable to dominate on his last start but looks the main pace angle here. The five-year-old looks capable of getting across to lead them up from stall 10.

The step up in grade is a concern but the pick has shown a liking for this venue in the past and is selected to provide jockey Jye McNeil with a Group 3 triumph.

Pom set for Rosehill glory

The fifth race at Rosehill is a competitive looking 1300m Benchmark 72 contest. Regal Pom is the selection to deliver a victory in the race with a soft 5 track expected.

Annabel Neasham’s charge showed good form last spell winning his final two starts. The second of those came by half-a-length in a 1600m Benchmark 64 event at Kembla Grange.

He was then a close third over 1200m in a Benchmark 64 race at Randwick last month. He was ridden with more restraint that day having made all the running at Kembla Grange in August.

He has been given a good draw at four off the rail here and has shown a liking for the forecast soft going in the past. The son of Press Statement is taken to deliver a victory with Brett Prebble up for the first time.
