Australian Racing: Beauty can seal Guineas victory

There are eight meetings due to take place on Sunday including a metro fixture at Hobart.

Race 6 Hobart

Piiink Beauty @ 4/1

Race 7 Sunshine Coast

Rufus Winright @ 19/5

Race 4 Wyong

Lim's Synergy @ 17/5

Piiink Beauty can shock Jaguar Stone

The 1600m Thousand Guineas has attracted a field of eight three-year-old fillies.

Adam Trinder’s Jaguar Stone looks likely to jump as favourite following a string of placed efforts.

The most recent of those came when third over 1400m at Launceston last month. That effort came on a good 4 surface.

A three-time winner, including on synthetics first up this spell, she finished a fair fifth over this track and trip subsequently.

Tackling this distance for the first time that day she should find this contest easier.

The progressive Piiink Beauty is preferred on this occasion however. The selection has won three times already this spell including over 1400m here last start. Piiink Beauty was successful at Benchmark 64 level when making all on a good 4 track that day.

She should have no issue with the slightly softer going forecast for this contest. While versatile tactically she looks the main pace angle in this contest with a good draw in three.

The extra distance the filly tackles here should prove to be no issue. She is taken to register a fourth career win with regular pilot Codi Jordan booked to ride.

Rufus to double up

The finale on the Sunshine Coast card is an interesting 1800m Class 1 handicap. A soft 5 surface is forecast for the 13-runner contest with Winston Smurfhill expected to have his supporters.

The four-year-old has shown solid form this spell placing three times from four starts.

The most recent of those came on a good 4 track over 1400m in a Class 1 here earlier this month.

He backed up quickly that day having filled the same spot at Benchmark 58 level over the same track and trip five days prior.

His sole disappointing effort came on a soft 5 surface here early last month when bucking at the start. There were further excuses as his rider lost her whip on that occasion.

Rufus Winright is selected to get the better of Nikita Beriman’s mount on this occasion however.

The three-year-old finished out of the frame on his first three starts. However, he showed improved form when third over 1600m here on a good 4 track last month.

Two subsequent starts on a soft surface have confirmed that promise. The latest of those came when breaking his maiden by nearly two-and-a-half-lengths over 2150m at Ipswich.

His last two starts have come on soft surfaces and the Odyssey Moon gelding looks capable of completing a double.

Synergy can seal Wyong success

The fourth race at Wyong is set to play host to our third bet of the day. The horse in question is the three-year-old Lim’s Synergy.

The selection showed good form when a close second over 1100m at Nowra on debut earlier this month. That effort came on a good 3 track but the soft 5 forecast here should prove to be no issue.

The son of Smart Missile had to give best to the more experienced Pennypacker on that occasion.

There was a two-length gap back to the third horse with the pick having raced from off the pace.

Trainer Mark Newnham boasts an impressive 38% strike-rate (11/29) with his runners at this track in the last year.

His representative here is expected to have improved for that debut experience. Lim’s Synergy looks set to get off the mark at the third time of asking.
