Big Bash preview: Canes looking to go back-to-back

Hobart Hurricanes are up and running for BBL 13 and will be targeting back-to-back wins when they face Melbourne Stars on Thursday.

The Canes edged out Melbourne Renegades in a tight encounter on Saturday and now need to kick on if they are to make the top four.

They can be backed at 2.20 to do that, and are also available at 10.00 to go on and win the whole thing.

A win against the Stars will be seen as a must, but it will not be easy against a side that have some outstanding players that can hurt you.

The Stars picked up their first win of the campaign on Boxing Day and that should give the whole camp a huge lift.

Wade the danger for Canes

The Hurricanes will be targeting their second win of BBL 13 after opening their account against Melbourne Renegades.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Hurricanes managed to restrict the Renegades to 183-5 off 20 overs.

Nathan Ellis and Patrick Dooley both recorded the exact same bowling figures when taking 2-32 off their four overs.

They have been sharing the wickets in the opening three games of the season, but Ellis is leading the way with three wickets to his name.

When it comes to batting Matthew Wade was in great touch against the Renegades when smashing an impressive 82 runs off 50 deliveries.

Mac Wright also caught the eye with 63 runs off 36 deliveries as the Canes chased down the total with six balls remaining.

Stars get off the mark

Like the Hurricanes, the Stars have finally picked up their first win off BBL 13 when edging a thriller against Sydney Sixers on Boxing Day.

The Stars won the toss and elected to bowl against the Sixers, and it was decision that seemed to pay off.

They limited Sydney to 154-8 and it was Usama Mir and Haris Rauf that did the damage when taking three wickets each.

Mir was the top bowler as he conceded just 19 runs. The same cannot be said of Rauf however as he conceded 9.50 runs per over.

The big issue as far as the Stars batting line-up is concerned, is the fact that their big guns have been unable to produce the big runs.

Glenn Maxwell smashed a four and a six before being dismissed for just 12 runs, while Marcus Stoinis made just six.

However other are capable of stepping up to the plate, and Hilton Cartwright did that with a tidy 47 not-out to help get his side over the line.

Beau Webster also continues to shine for the Stars and added another 35 runs to his tally for the season.
