Big Bash preview: Scorchers look to bounce back

Perth Scorchers will be keen to bounce back from their first defeat of BBL 13 when they take on Sydney Thunder on Monday.

The Scorchers suffered a nine-wicket defeat against Adelaide Strikers on Friday, but are still in a good position as they attempt the three-peat.

They will attempt to get back on track against a Thunder side that have won just one game all campaign, with the top four looking beyond them.

The Thunder still have plenty of pride to play and it will be far from easy for the Scorchers at Giants Stadium.

Let’s take a closer look at the two teams with game day fast approaching.

Thunder back in action

Sydney Thunder will return to action following a short break in action, which allowed them to go away and lick their wounds.

They last played on New Year’s Day when slipping to a seven-wicket defeat against Hobart Hurricanes in Tasmania.

Thunder were put into bat after the Hurricanes won the toss, and the 150-8 off 20 overs was not enough to get the job done.

The Canes got there with 11 balls remaining, and once again Sydney Thunder were left empty handed.

They will need to be at their very best to have a chance against the Scorchers. Chris Green top-scored with 33 runs against the Hurricanes, and they will need more than that on Monday.

Thunder do have some big names in the batting line-up, including former Scorchers ace Cameron Bancroft, and they need to step up.

Bancroft is priced at 4.00 to be Team – Top Batter against his old side.

The same can be said of the bowling attack, who took just three wickets as the Hurricanes reached their target with relative ease.

Daniel Sams did take one of the wickets and is priced at 3.25 to be Team – Top Bowler.

Scorchers need a response

The Scorchers will not be reaching for the panic button after the Strikers defeat, but they will want to bounce back.

A wounded Scorchers side will be a dangerous proposition and they will be out to put on a show.

After losing Sam Whiteman and Zak Crawley cheaply, the middle order also failed to put on the big score that was needed.

Josh Inglis put on 39 runs off 25 deliveries, while Aaron Hardie and Laurie Evans made 35 and 29 respectively.

Hardie is 3.75 to be Team – Top Batter, with Crawley and Inglis both available at 4.00.

For once a powerful Scorchers bowling attack struggle at the Adelaide Oval, with Lance Morris taking the only wicket.

That was way off the five he took in the corresponding fixture just a couple of days earlier.

Morris has been Team – Top Bowler in the last two matches now and is 4.50 to take the accolade again on Monday.
