Big Bash preview: Scorchers making Optus a fortress

Perth Scorchers look up for making a strong defence of their Big Bash League title and will be targeting another win against the Renegades on Boxing Day.

The Scorchers have seen one game abandoned, but they have been impressive when winning the other two.

Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers are shaping up to be the biggest threat to the Scorchers in BBL 13, but an historic three-peat is still on the cards for now.

They are priced at 2.87 to win the title.

Optus Stadium looks like being a fortress once again and the Renegades will have a big job on their hands in front of another huge crowd.

The Scorchers fans continue to pack in to Optus Stadium, acting like a 12th man for the home side.

The Renegades have not won a match so far this BBL campaign and it is going to take some effort to win in the west.

Scorchers looking strong

The BBL 13 campaign is in the early stages, but the Perth Scorchers are already looking like a formidable outfit that will take some stopping.

Back in the west earlier this week, they blew away the Hobart Hurricanes in devastating fashion.

Having won the toss and deciding to bat, the Hurricanes were in big trouble early on, and only the tail wagging allowed them to post 172-8.

The Scorchers have a strong bowling attack, and on this occasion it was Jason Behrendorff who stepped up to the plate when taking four wickets for 25 runs off his four overs.

The pace bowler will again be out to play a major role against the Renegades and can be backed at 4.33 to be Team – Top Bowler.

Perth then made very light work of the total with Aaron Hardie and English import Zac Crawley getting the job done.

Cooper Connolly went for just five runs, before Hardie top-scored with 85 not-out, while Crawley also made 65 not-out.

The duo will be full of confidence and will be expecting to pile on more runs on Boxing Day.

Crawley and Hardie are both priced at 4.00 to be Team – Top Batter.

Renegades still winless

Melbourne Renegades are still looking for their first win of BBL 13 after losing to Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday.

The Renegades made 183-5 off their 20 overs against the Hurricanes and there were some solid performances with the bat.

Openers Joe Clarke and Quinton de Kock both made 38 but could not kick on to a big score, while Aaron Finch and Jonathan Wells were guilty of the same with 31 and 40 runs respectively.

De Kock and Clarke are priced at 3.50 and 4.00 respectively to be Team – Top Batter.

The failure to make a big score proved to be costly as the Hurricanes 187-4 with an over remaining to inflict more pain on the Hurricanes, who now have to try and pull off a shock in Perth.

Tom Rogers took two of the wickets against the Hurricanes, but the Renegades are going to need a lot more if they are to upset the Scorchers.
