Big Bash preview: Stars need strong finish

Melbourne Stars have some work to do to finish in the top four and a win over the Renegades on Saturday night is a must.

The situation is in their own hands however with two games of the regular season remaining, and if they win them both they are in finals.

The Stars can also be backed at 11.00 to go all the way and win the grand final.

Melbourne Renegades have had a campaign to forget and sit bottom of the ladder having won just one game.

Even so, they still have plenty to play for against their arch rivals, including their pride.

The Renegades will also be keen to avoid the wooden spoon and a couple of good results could see them jump over the Sydney Thunder.

A big crowd should turn up at Marvel Stadium, so let’s take a closer look at the two sides as game-day fast approaches.

Renegades playing for pride

Even though the Renegades have had a campaign to forget, they will still be motivated to get one over their arch rivals.

The two sides have already met this campaign, with the Stars winning a rain-affected game by eight wickets.

The Renegades made 97-7 after it was reduced to a 14-over match, and the Stars got there with 12 balls remaining. So a revenge mission is also on the cards.

Jordan Cox impressed with the bat in the last match against the Hurricanes, making 47 runs from 36 deliveries.

Cox can be backed at 4.33 to be Team – Top Batter against the Stars, while Jake Fraser-McGurk is the same price.

Adam Zampa is 4.00 to be Team – Top Bowler.

Stars look to bounce back

The Stars had been on a great run of form, winning four on the spin, until they came unstuck against Sydney Sixers in their last game.

They slipped to a seven-wicket defeat and now need to bounce back against the Renegades if they are to extend their season.

After being put into bat by the Sixers, the Stars will be disappointed to register just 156-4 off their 20 overs.

Dan Lawrence, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright all got themselves in, but failed to kick on and make the big score that was needed.

Opener Lawrence top-scored with 36 runs and he is priced at 4.50 to be Team – Top Batter once again.

Maxwell, who made 31 runs against the Sixers, can also be backed at 4.50, while Stoinis is 7.00.

The Sixers reached their target with 11 balls to spare as the Stars' bowling attack failed to deliver.

Scott Boland took two wickets, but was expensive when going for 9.50 runs per over.

Boland can be backed at 4.33 to be Team – Top Bowler.
