Big Bash preview: Strikers target another upset

Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers will battle it out for the right to face the Sydney Sixers in the BBL 13 grand final.

It has been an exciting finals series so far, with the Strikers pulling off a big upset when defeating the Perth Scorchers in their own back yard on Saturday night.

The Sixers did the same to Brisbane, but thankfully for the Heat they get a second chance against the Strikers.

There are no lives left and whoever wins the Challenger at Heritage Bank Stadium will make it to the final. The loser will see their tournament come to an end.

The Heat and Strikers are both priced at 4.33 to win BBL 13, while the Sixers are the hot fancies at 1.66 to win the final, which will take place at the SCG.

Let’s take a look at the match-up in the Challenger.

Heat missing the Gabba

Brisbane Heat came unstuck at Heritage Bank Stadium against the Sixers, and now get a chance to put things right at the venue.

There was a suggestion that switching from the Gabba to the Gold Coast would hamper them against the Sixers, and it turned out to be correct.

The Heat decided to bowl first after winning the bat flip and would have been reasonably happy to restrict the Sixers to 152-8.

Michael Neser lead the way when taking 3-27, while Spencer Johnson kept things really tight when taking 2-14 off his four overs.

Neser, who has also been outstanding in the field, and chips in with runs with the bat, is priced at 6.00 to be Team – Top Bowler.

Johnson is 5.00, while Xavier Bartlett is 4.00.

For once it was the batting order that let the Heat down as they were bowled out for just 113 runs.

Jimmy Peirson top-scored with just 26 runs and they will need much more if they are to defeat the Strikers.

Peirson is 6.00 to be Team – Top Batter for the second match running.

Strikers continue to fire

Momentum is key at this stage and the Strikers have it in bucket loads after making it five wins on the spin against the Scorchers.

The likes of Matt Short failed to deliver for once as they made just 155-7 off their 20 overs, but it proved to be enough.

Jake Weatherald top scored with 56 off 32 deliveries and is 4.75 to be Team – Top Batter, while short is priced at 3.75 to return to top form and take the accolade.

But it was with the ball that the Strikers really shone as the Scorchers were bowled out for 105.

The spin attack of Lloyd Pope and Cameron Boyce did the damage, taking 4-24 and 3-20, respectively.

All eyes will be on the pitch to see how it reacts to spin, but Pope is 4.33 to be Team – Top Bowler.
