Big Bash preview: The heat is on at the Gabba

Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers are set to clash in what could be a dress rehearsal for the BBL 13 final at the end of the month.

The Scorchers are priced at 2.75 to go all the way and win the final, while the Heat are available at 2.87.

Perth Scorchers know how to get the job done after winning the last two finals, the last one of which was against the Heat, but Brisbane have not put a foot wrong this campaign.

They are undefeated in eight games and confidence should be sky high heading into the Scorchers clash.

Wednesday night’s clash at the Gabba is the first match of a double-header between the two sides.

Three days later they clash again in Perth and once both games are done we could have a better idea of who will go on and win the title.

Heat continue to fire

Brisbane Heat picked up their sixth win of the campaign when beating Hobart Hurricanes by one run in another rain-effected match.

The Heat have already seen two matches abandoned due to the weather, while the last two have also been decided via the DLS method.

Thankfully for the Heat they have come out on top in both to keep the good times rolling.

Despite the Scorchers being the kings of the Big Bash League in recent seasons, it can be argued that the Heat are now the team to beat in BBL 13.

They were made to work hard for their latest win, but the expert bowling of Xavier Bartlett, who was named player of the match, helped them to get the job done.

After making 132-7 off 20 overs, the Hurricanes were set a target of 118 from 16 overs to win via DLS, but came up a couple of runs short when making 116-9.

That was mainly due to the bowling of Bartlett, who took 3-30 off his four overs, and his performance against the Scorchers will be key.

So too will that of former Scorchers batsman Colin Munro. The Heat will be delighted to see him back among the runs after he made 56 to finish Team – Top Batter.

Scorchers out to make Gabba statement

The Scorchers look unbeatable at Optus Stadium in Perth, but that is not always the case when they travel away from the west.

Home advantage could be key for the Heat, but the Scorchers will be out to make a statement ahead of finals.

One thing is certain though, the Scorchers have a team packed with talent and any one of them can step up at any time to put in a match-winning performance.

Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis and Laurie Evans have all starred with the bat and are capable of scoring big runs at the Gabba.

While the bowling attack has been just as impressive, with Lance Morris leading the way.
