Big Bash preview: Thunder and Renegades wrap up regular season

Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades will wrap up the BBL 13 regular season when they battle it out at Giants Stadium on Wednesday.

It has been a disappointing campaign for both sides, with the Thunder set to finish bottom of the ladder, while the Renegades have not performed much better.

Heading into Wednesday’s game, the Thunder have picked up just one win out of nine, while the Renegades have won two.

There is still all to play for in the final game however, including pride, and both teams will be eager to finish the campaign on a high.

Finals will get underway on Friday, but unfortunately for these two sides, they will be watching on from the sofa.

Thunder struggles continue

Sydney Thunder slipped to yet another defeat on Sunday when losing to the Adelaide Strikers at Manuka Oval.

Not for the first time, the big guns in the Thunder batting line-up failed to perform during the nine-wicket defeat.

Having won the toss and deciding to bat, Thunder were bowled out for 140 runs in 19.2 overs.

Opener Alex Hales top-scored with 43 runs from 32 deliveries, but unfortunately for Thunder, no-one else could step up to the plate.

David Warner made just 13, Cameron Bancroft 14, while Chris Green was second top-scorer with just 19 runs.

Hales can be backed at 4.00 to be Team – Top Batter against the Renegades, while Warner is available at 3.60.

The Strikers reached the target with 23 deliveries remaining and lost just one wicket in the process.

Tanveer Sangha was the player to strike, and the spinner is 4.00 to finish the match as their Team – Top Bowler.

Marsh calls it a day

Shaun Marsh has announced his retirement from professional cricket and the clash against the Thunder will be his last.

Marsh has struggled with injury this season, playing just five games, but he has still scored some big runs during that spell.

He has averaged 45.25 and scored 64 not-out off 49 deliveries in the win over the Melbourne Stars on Saturday night.

Marsh will be keen to go out on a high against the Thunder and is priced at 4.00 to be their Team – Top Batter.

Jake Fraser-McGurk was also impressive with 42 runs and can be backed at 4.75 in the same market.

Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-17 off his four overs as the Stars were restricted to 137-8.

Richardson is 4.33 to be Team – Top Bowler.
