NRL: Big guns back for Roosters

Sydney Roosters return after the bye and will be looking to get their season going after a disappointing NRL campaign so far.

The Bondi outfit, who were billed as premiership contenders at the start of the season, currently sit outside of the eight and have work to do.

However, they have some big guns returning this week and now could be the time to launch their assault up the ladder.

The Storm are going much better in 2023 and are just a couple of points away from the top of the ladder.

Even so, they need to keep winning as there is a chance they could miss out on the top four, the ladder is that tight.

It means there is plenty at stake in Saturday’s clash when these two old, fierce rivals go head-to-head.

Roosters need a run

The Roosters have won just two of the last eight games and need to get a move on if they are to make the top eight this season.

They had a bye last weekend, and will have taken the time to regroup and get ready to go again after such a poor run of form.

Trent Robinson’s side lost two games on the spin before the bye, and now the games are fast running out if they are to make an impact.

In five of the last six NRL games, just two points have separated Sydney from the opposition, with the Roosters winning two of them.

Another close game looks to be in store and both sides can be backed at 6.50 to win by 1-5 points.

History is not on the side of the Roosters in this fixture though. They have beaten the Storm just once since 2019.

That win did come at the SCG in 2022 and they could do with the same outcome on Saturday.

The SCG is usually something of a fortress for the Roosters and they will be hoping that home advantage can help to get them over the line once again.

The Roosters are set to welcome back a number of big players this weekend, the most notable being hooker Brandon Smith who returns from a lengthy lay-off with a thumb injury.

James Tedesco appears to have come through State of Origin without any issues and should be good to go.

Joseph Manu has been in fine form for the Roosters recently when scoring four tries in his last three games and he is priced at 3.00 to grab another on Saturday.

Warbrick boost for Storm

The Storm also return after the bye and will be looking to make amends for the 34-16 loss against the Panthers in the game before it.

They had won the three previous games however and have been in good touch throughout the season despite losing some experienced players.

The Storm have the sign over the Roosters when winning six of the last seven games, while they have also enjoyed their travels to Sydney in 2023 when winning three from four.

Coach Craig Bellamy will be boosted by the return of Will Warbrick from concussion but he will need to wait and check on Maroons stars Harry Grant, Xavier Coates and Cameron Munster.

Warbrick can be backed at 8.00 to score the first try of the game.
