AFL: Big guns eager to finish on a high

Sunday is shaping up to be a big day of action in the AFL, with Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Carlton all in action.

It is the last day of the regular season before we head into finals and all three teams will be keen to finish with a win.

The same can be said for Sydney Swans, who will also take their season into September and will be out to knock over Melbourne at the SCG.

Port Adelaide, who could still be in with a shout of making the top two depending on how Collingwood and Brisbane go before them, are up against Richmond.

Fifth-placed Carlton are flying but face another tough test against a Greater Western Sydney side who may need a result to hold on to eighth spot.

The Swans edged out Adelaide by just one point at the Adelaide Oval last weekend and have now won the last five games on the bounce.

That is just the kind of form they will want to take into finals, so it is important to keep the momentum going against the Demons.

They have a good record against Melbourne as well, winning two of the last three meetings, both in Melbourne, so will fancy their chances at the SCG.

Melbourne are also in good touch having lost just one game in the last five. That was against in-form Carlton and there was only four points in it.

They did win by 50 points back in round three, but the Swans are a different animal these days and the Demons are 6.00 to win by 1-12 points.

Port Adelaide look to have bounced back to winning ways at just the right time with finals just around the corner.

After losing four on the bounce, they have hit back with important wins over GWS and away at Fremantle to keep them in the mix for a top two finish.

The Power will know what they have to do come game-day, as second-placed Brisbane play St Kilda on Saturday.

Richmond bounced back with a win against North Melbourne after losing three on the spin and will be out to finish on a high at the Adelaide Oval.

They won by 38 points at the venue in 2022 and it will hold no fear.

Carlton continue to be the form team in the AFL and will be keen to finish with another win to keep the good times rolling into finals.

After winning nine games on the bounce, Carlton will be fancying their chances of winning the grand final, despite finishing outside of the top four.

It rarely happens, the Bulldogs were the last team to do it in 2016, but Carlton are flying and can be backed at 8.00 to win the flag.

Depending on how Western Bulldogs go against Geelong on Saturday, GWS could need a win to hold on to eighth spot and play finals.
