Australian Racing: Blaze A Trail to lead the way

There’s plenty of action for punters to get stuck into including a 10-race card at Randwick.

Race 6 Randwick

Zoushack @ 7.50

Race 4 Flemington

Legio Ten @ 2.80

Race 7 Eagle Farm

Blaze A Trail @ 2.20

Zoushack to salute

The sixth race on the Randwick card is an intriguing 1400m Benchmark 88 handicap set to take place on a good 4 surface.

Chris Waller’s Vienna Princess delivered an impressive two length victory when contesting a 1300m Benchmark 78 handicap at Rosehill on her penultimate start.

The three-year-old was fancied to follow up to 1500m at the same venue when racing at this level subsequently but could finish only sixth.

The daughter of Snitzel was beaten just over one-and-a-half-lengths that day and rates a worthy favourite here.

Potential pace angle ZOUSHACK is preferred on this occasion having raced from the front prior to finishing runner-up in that Benchmark 88 contest.

The selection hadn’t been beaten far in a couple of higher grade handicap contests including when one-and-a-half lengths.

The six-year-old has won at this venue in the past and with a 40% strike-rate (4/10) on the forecast good going he looks capable of delivering a victory for the Joseph Pride team.

Ten for victory

The fourth race at Flemington takes the eye with regards our second bet of the day with the eleven runner contest set to take place over 1400m on a good 4 surface at the Melbourne venue.

The Creator is sure to have his supporters having delivered victories in both starts in New Zealand including over 1600m in a Benchmark 65 handicap at Matamata in January.

The three-year-old has changed trainers since that success and is set to make his debut for the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr team.

The drop in trip should prove no issue but the gelding is yet to race on a sound surface and LEGIO TEN for the James Cummings stable is preferred.

The pick won his first two starts this spell including by a neck in an 1100m three-year-old only handicap over 1100m at this venue at the start of last month.

The gelding followed that success up with a two length second in the Listed A.R. Creswick Stakes over 1200m at this venue at the start of the month.

Both of those efforts came on wet tracks but the three-year-old broke his maiden on a good 3 track at Hawkesbury in November.

While the selection could finish only fourth when beaten a length at Sandown Lakeside on his only previous start at this distance he has been finishing strongly over shorter of late.

Promising apprentice Celine Gaudray is back in the saddle having partnered the gelding to victory here last month and taking a valuable 2kg off she looks capable of register another triumph.

Trail for Eagle Farm glory

BLAZE A TRAIL has shown good form since returning with a seventh in The Archer over 1200m at Rockhampton at the end of April.

The gelding recorded a good third when beaten just over half-a-length in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes over 1350m at Ipswich on his penultimate start.

The pick followed that effort up with a head triumph when tackling the same distance at Doomben when dropping to a Class 6 event a week ago.

That success came on a soft 5 track but the selection will have no issue with the quicker going forecast at Eagle Farm.

The five-year-old has a good barrier two off the rail here and stepping up in trip and switched to an open handicap he looks capable of saluting under jockey Ryan Maloney.
