AFL: Blues and Cats set for MCG blockbuster

Carlton will be out to keep up the pressure on Sydney at the top of the AFL ladder when they take on Geelong on Friday evening at the MCG.

The Swans are dominating this season and are priced at 3.50 to win the grand final. Carlton, who sit in second, are 5.50 and will be doing all they can to close the gap.

A win against Geelong will help their cause and an epic battle looks to be on the cards under the lights at the MCG.

Geelong looked to be the side to beat after getting off to a flyer, winning their opening seven games, but the wheels have since come off.

Chris Scott’s men are still in the mix and a win over Carlton could give them the spark they need for the remainder of the season.

Geelong are 14.00 to bounce back and add another premiership to the one they won in 2022.

Blues impressing in second spot

Carlton are going well after winning four of the last five games to move them to second spot on the AFL ladder.

They are shaping up to be the main challenger to Sydney, who are a massive 12 points clear at the top of the ladder, but need another win against the Cats.

The two sides have already met once this season. That was back in Round 7 with Geelong coming out on top by 13 points.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then, and back on their home deck, Carlton will be confident of getting the job done.

The Blues can be backed at 5.50 to flip the Round 7 result and win by 13-24 points at the MCG.

Charlie Curnow continues to fly this season, and along with Gold Coast’s Ben King, is leading the Coleman Medal standings with 38 goals.

Curnow can be backed at 7.00 to boot the first goal of the game, while teammate Harry McKay is 10.00.

Geelong in need of a lift

All was looking rosy in the Geelong garden the last time these two sides met.

However, soon after their 13-point win, the winning streak was snapped and they have been on a downward spiral ever since.

They have lost five out of the last six matches, but at least had a bye last week. That will have given them a chance to regroup and lick their wounds.

The Cats could come out firing ahead of a tough-looking run of fixtures and are priced at 5.50 to nick the win on Friday night by 1-12 points.

Geelong still have a side packed with quality and will need the likes of Jeremy Cameron, Tom Hawkins and Tyson Stengle to step up at the MCG.

Cameron can be backed at 11.00 to get the Cats off to a good start by booting the first goal of the game.
