Super Rugby: Blues can run riot at Suncorp

The Blues have a strong record against the Reds and the Auckland outfit will be full of confidence when they make the trip to the Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

The Blues are going in search of their eighth win of the season and the Reds will have to put in one of their performances of the Super Rugby campaign to stop them getting it.

Having put together a four-game winning streak, the Blues will have been disappointed with their last performance, as they suffered a 15-3 defeat at the Crusaders

Failing to really lay a glove on one of their rivals, head coach Leon MacDonald will be wanting a response from his side at the first time of asking at the Suncorp.

The Blues head into this encounter on the back of a strong record against the Reds, having only lost one of their last seven meetings.

It was the Blues who came out on top in their last trip to the Reds in 2021 thanks to a 31-24 victory.

MacDonald has made changes for the trip to Brisbane but the Blues still have skipper Patrick Tuipulotu leading the way, with All Blacks fly-half Beauden Barrett in the No.10 jersey.

Even with the changes, MacDonald is positive his side can head back to New Zealand with the win.

“These next three games are crucial, we’re sitting just outside that top four so if we want to be playing at home in the playoffs we need to go on a little run of wins, starting with the Reds on Friday night,” he told the Blues website.

The Blues are firm favourites going into this encounter and are 1.25 to come away with the win.

Reds hope to build on Chiefs scalp

The Reds raised plenty of eyebrows last time out as they delivered a remarkable performance to earn a 25-22 victory at the high-flying Chiefs

Unbeaten going into the game, few expected the Chiefs to slip up in that last outing but the Reds found a way to get the job done on the road and cause a major upset.

Whether that performance will have taken too much out of the Reds, or whether they have enough in the tank to spring another surprise this week, remains to be seen.

Reds head coach Brad Thorn has brought Josh Flook back in at outside centre, along with Taj Annan inside him in the backline.

Sef Fa’agase is in at prop as the other change from the starting XV that helped secure a memorable win at the Chiefs.

The Reds have struggled against the Blues in the past and the visitors could be worth considering at 1.91 with -10 on the Line.
