AFL: Blues need to deliver Demons win

Carlton will be desperate to snap a two-game losing streak when they face Melbourne in a massive game at the MCG on Thursday evening.

The Blues had their eye on premiership glory in 2024 but currently sit in eighth spot on the ladder with a 5-3 win/loss ratio.

There is plenty of work for head coach Michael Voss and his players to do and they are currently priced at 8.00 to go on and win the grand final.

Melbourne can be backed at 7.00 to be crowned champions after winning six from eight games this season to take them to fourth on the ladder.

The game on Thursday is massive, with Carlton looking to get their season back on track, while the Demons could open up an eight-point gap on their rivals with a win and boost their premiership hopes in the process.

Huge game for struggling Blues

It is a massive game for both sides but especially so for Carlton, who could end up outside of the top eight if they suffer another defeat.

Back-to-back losses against fellow premiership hopefuls Geelong and Collingwood have put a dent in their hopes and they cannot afford another against Melbourne.

The six-point home defeat against arch-rivals Collingwood would have really stung and they will be keen to repay the members on Thursday night.

The performance of Harry McKay was one plus point against the Pies as he went on to boot four goals in the game.

A repeat performance would do nicely for Carlton and he can be backed at 10.00 to boot the first goal of the game.

Charlie Curnow, who kicked two against Carlton, leads the Coleman Medal standings with 25 goals this season and is 7.50 to kick the first of this game.

Carlton have won two of the past three meetings with Melbourne, but four points was the biggest winning margin.

They will take any kind of win on Thursday night and are priced at 6.00 to win by 1-12.

Demons are back on track

Melbourne have bounced back well from a defeat against Brisbane Lions to win their last two games.

The Demons inflicted Geelong’s first defeat of 2024 on Saturday when winning by eight points, which will boost their confidence even further.

Bayley Fritsch was again impressive when kicking three goals against the Cats and is priced at 9.50 to grab the first against Carlton.

Melbourne won by 38 points when the two sides met in round one this season and would love to inflict the same kind of damage again.

They can be backed at 11.00 to win by 37-48 points.

Midfielder Caleb Wilson, who has just earned a Rising Star nomination, will also be a player to keep an eye on. He booted a goal and produced 18 disposals in that first-round clash.
