Australian Racing: Boston to dazzle at Sunshine Coast

There are eight meetings set to take place on Sunday, including on the polytrack at both Sunshine Coast and Canberra.

Race 8 Sunshine Coast

Boston Of Tuffy @ 6.00

Race 7 Canberra

Holmes A Court @ 7.00

Race 5 Echuca

No Quarantine @ 6.00

Boston backed for Sunshine Coast success

The eighth race on a nine-race card at Sunshine Coast is a 2000m Benchmark 58 handicap contest.

Lawbreaker is expected to have her supporters, with apprentice Emily Lang up having delivered some solid efforts in defeat in recent starts.

The mare’s last three efforts have all come at metro level, including when beaten less than a length over 1845m at Eagle Farm on her penultimate start.

The five-year-old raced at Benchmark 65 handicap level that day and followed it up with a fourth over 2040m at Doomben at the end of last month.

However, top weight BOSTON OF TUFFY is the selection for the Peter Robl team, having placed second in his last two starts.

The first of those starts saw him jump from a wide alley prior to losing out by two-and-a-half-lengths in a 1540m Benchmark 58 handicap on the polytrack at Gold Coast.

That form is working out well, with the winner and third both recording subsequent victories.

It was the third home that day Pagato who the pick chased home when beaten seven lengths stepped up to 2000m when racing at the same venue onFebruary 24th.

The 6.00 pick raced from off the pace on that occasion, with Pagato going on to frank the form when successful returning to the Gold Coast polytrack earlier this month.

The four-year-old has an inside alley here and, with Jasper Franklin on board, for his last three starts up he looks up to delivering a win.

Court to surprise Fully Lit

The Group 3 Black Opal Stakes over 1200m is set to take place on a soft 5 track at Canberra.

Fully Lit is expected to jump as favourite, having impressed in winning both starts to date for the powerful Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott team.

The youngster raced close to or on the speed on each occasion, including when taking out a fifteen-runner renewal of the Listed Inglis Millennium at Randwick last month.

The colt raced over 1100m and, while the extra distance here should prove no issue, he has to concede weight to all bar one of his rivals.

HOLMES A COURT was an $850,000 purchase as a yearling at the Gold Coast last year and may prove capable of upsetting the favourite.

The son of Capitalist holds entries in both the Golden Slipper and Sires Produce Stakes and has placed in black-type races on both starts to date.

The first of those saw him beaten less than a length on a good 4 surface in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview over 1000m at Caulfield in January.

Trained by Peter & Paul Snowden the 7.00 colt went on to place third in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude over 1100m at the same venue a month ago.

While both of those efforts came on a good 4 track, the pick showed he handles softer conditions when contesting two wet track barrier trials in January.

Tommy Berry takes the ride for the first time here and, jumping from barrier five, the pair may prove up to upsetting the favourite.

Quarantine free for Echuca glory

The fifth race at Echuca is a Benchmark 64 handicap set to take place over 1200m.

NO QUARANTINE takes the eye for the Craig Weeding stable here, having delivered solid top four finishes on each of his last three starts.

Those efforts all came over slightly shorter than he tackles here, including when beaten just over two lengths over 1175m at Albury on his penultimate start.

The 6.00 selection contested a Benchmark 66 handicap that day and finished one place better when racing in a Benchmark 64 contest at Wangaratta on March 2nd.

The six-year-old’s barrier seven allocation shouldn’t pose too many issues given that he is expected to race from off the pace and he is selected to record his first win since July.
