After a dramatic victory for Oleksandr Usyk back in May, the Ukrainian and Tyson Fury will go toe-to-toe once again in the rematch on Sunday morning.
The Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will again be the stage of one of the most highly-anticipated fights of the year, as Usyk puts his WBA, WBC, WBO, IBO and The Ring world heavyweight titles on the line.
Fury suffered the first professional defeat of his career when Usyk beat him by way of a split decision back in May and now the 'Gypsy King' is a man looking for revenge this weekend.
Having had his pride undoubtedly dented after the defeat to Usyk in May, the temptation for Fury would be to go out and shock the Ukrainian with brute force.
That could well play into Usyk’s hands, with the reigning champion one of the best tactical boxers in the business.
Fury has spoken about his own tactical adjustments he must make if he is to come out on top this time in Saudi Arabia.
What the Brit can’t afford is another round like the ninth in his last encounter with Usyk, in which the Ukrainian hunted Fury down and produced blow after blow to nearly bring the fight to an end.
Fury, who is 2.10 to win Sunday’s fight, survived that time but the 36-year-old certainly won’t want to leave himself open to that sort of punishment again.
While Fury may have no issue with motivation, with revenge being a powerful driving force, Usyk heads to Riyadh as the man on top of the boxing world.
With nowhere further up the ladder to go, Usyk has scaled the boxing mountain and now the only way is down.
That’s not to say the 37-year-old won’t be doing all he can to defend his titles but it’s certainly a different mental approach he must take.
What Usyk does have in the locker is the fact he knows he has beaten Fury and was possibly unfortunate to have not won by stoppage last May.
The reigning champion is the slight favourite at 1.72 to claim the victory this weekend, while he’s 4.00 to win by KO. TKO or DQ.
It’s hard to know what the future holds for these ageing fighters after Sunday but what’s certain is that another intriguing battle awaits in Riyadh between two of the best to ever do it.
