AFL: Brisbane continue their battle for second

Brisbane Lions continue their push to finish in the top two when they entertain Adelaide on Saturday, while it is also derby day in Perth.

The clash between Carlton and Melbourne takes the limelight on Saturday, but there are still four other games on the schedule with all to play for.

Brisbane are locked in a three-way battle with Melbourne and Port Adelaide to take second spot behind Collingwood, so four points against the Crows is a must.

In the west, local pride and bragging rights are on the line when West Coast take on Fremantle in the derby. The Eagles have had another season to forget but a win over the Dockers would salvage something from it.

Essendon will be out to keep their slim finals hopes alive when they take on North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium, while Sydney could jump into the eight if they beat Gold Coast and other results go their way.

Essendon ended a run of three straight defeats with a one-point win over struggling West Coast last week and will be hoping to kick on.

The win over a West Coast side who have won two games all season is nothing to write home about, but coach Brad Scott will be hoping it gives the Bombers a spark to mount a late finals push.

When the two sides met in June this year, Essendon won by just six points and are priced at 6.00 to triumph by 1-12 on Saturday.

North Melbourne are battling with West Coast to avoid the wooden spoon with both teams locked on eight points.

Nick Larkey has booted 51 goals this season and is 7.50 to grab the first of the game.

Sydney are coming with a late charge and are just two points outside of the top eight after winning their last four games on the bounce.

They have come out on top in a couple of close encounters when beating both Essendon and Western Bulldogs by two points.

The Swans can be backed at 6.50 to beat the Gold Coast by 1-12 points.

Gold Coast have seen their finals hopes evaporate following an inconsistent run of form.

They showed what they are capable of with wins over Brisbane and St Kilda, but also slipped up against GWS and, more recently, Adelaide.

Brisbane are on a run of win one, lose one at the moment and that is something they need to put right heading into finals.

They beat Fremantle by just three points at Optus last week and lost to the Gold Coast the week before.

Adelaide are desperate for a win to keep alive their hopes of squeezing into the top eight and they have already beaten the Lions once this season.

That was back in May when they came out on top by 17 points, so the double is on.

Taylor Walker, who is averaging just over three goals a game, will be key to their chances and he can be backed at 8.00 to kick the last goal of the game.

West Coast may have only won two games all season, but they will be desperate to pick up their third against Fremantle in the derby.

The Eagles have shown signs of improvement when beating North Melbourne, while they can consider themselves very unlucky when losing by just one point at Essendon last week.

The performance will have given them a lift ahead of the derby and they are priced at 9.00 to win by 1-12 points.

Fremantle also suffered heartbreak last week when losing by just three points to high-flying Brisbane.

They have won the last three derby games but are not in great form having won just one game in the last five.
