NRL: Broncos desperate to end losing run

The battle for the top eight in the NRL hots up at Suncorp Stadium when the Brisbane Broncos entertain St George Illawarra Dragons.

The Broncos made the grand final in 2023 but have work to do just to make the top eight this season, following a disappointing campaign so far.

They can be backed at 5.50 to make the grand final once again, but the first job is to force their way into the top eight.

The Dragons also have their sights on playing finals following a much-improved season under the leadership of new coach Shane Flanagan.

The Red V can be backed at 5.50 to play finals and an upset win against the Broncos would certainly help their cause.

Both the Broncos and Dragons will be missing key players due to State of Origin, but we should still be in for a cracking game nonetheless.

. What: Brisbane Broncos v St George Illawarra Dragons
. Where: Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
. When: 19:35 (AEST), Saturday 13th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Brisbane Broncos 1.52, St George/Illawarra Dragons 2.55

Broncos remain on the slide

The Broncos are on a horror run of form that has seen them lose the last five games on the bounce, which means they have slipped from fifth place on the ladder to 11th and they need to arrest the slide as soon as possible.

A win over the Dragons on home soil is a must, but they will have to do it without State of Origin stars Reece Walsh, Selwyn Cobbo, Pat Carrigan and Payne Haas.

There is some better news though as Jordan Riki is back from suspension, while Kotoni Staggs returns following some personal leave.

Staggs has scored five tries in his past four games against the Dragons and can be backed at 2.85 to score at anytime on Saturday night.

Kevin Walters’ side are struggling to score points and have won only one of their past five games at Suncorp.

They need to turn things around quickly and can be backed at 3.60 to win by 1-12 points.

Star duo missing for Dragons

The loss of star players Ben Hunt and Zac Lomax is a massive blow to the Dragons’ chances of getting the win at Suncorp.

Indeed, out of the last 11 games when Hunt has not been in the side, the Dragons have managed to win just one of them.

Lomax has also been a huge player this season when scoring 11 tries in 14 games played.

With both players on State of Origin duty, the Dragons need to find a way to get the job done without them.

Mikaele Ravalawa will come on to the wing to replace Lomax and can be backed at 8.00 to score the first try of the game.

Jesse Marschke is the man tasked with filling the boots of Hunt and is 6.50 to score at anytime.

The Dragons have won six of the last eight games against the Broncos and are priced at 7.00 to nick the game by 1-5 points.
