Super Rugby: Brumbies eyeing Chiefs upset

Brumbies can look back at past glories

When it comes to the recent head-to-head record between these sides, the Brumbies have had the better of it against the Chiefs.

Winning three of the last five meetings against the Hamilton outfit, the Brumbies can look back to the blueprint of how to pick up wins against this impressive Kiwi side.

The Brumbies did suffer a 31-21 defeat when they met in Canberra earlier this season and coach Stephen Larkham and his players will have learnt from their experience. Looking at the Line market, there is some value to be had looking at the Brumbies with a +11.5 point head start at 1.91.

The Brumbies will look to keep the Chiefs quiet in the opening exchanges, in a bid to make sure the hosts don’t pick up some early momentum at FMG Stadium Waikato. That can make for a tighter encounter and the Brumbies are capable of falling on the right side of the handicap.

Chiefs the team to beat

After losing just one of their games during the regular season, the Chiefs do look to be the side to beat in Super Rugby this season.

Only the Reds were able to overcome the Chiefs during the regular season but the New Zealand outfit got their revenge in the quarter-finals with a 29-20 victory against Queensland. At 1.22 favourites to claim the win on home soil, the Brumbies will be up against it on their trip to Hamilton.

The Chiefs have been boosted by the returns of lock Tupou Vaa'i and centre Alex Nankivell from injury, while Rameka Poihipi will be looking to make an impact off the subs’ bench.

Damian McKenzie has been the creative spark at fly-half and the Brumbies will be doing all they can to put the All Blacks star off his game on Saturday.

McKenzie has the ability to make breaks from first phase, while his former life as a fullback means he can get on the end of tries via his clever support lines.

With that in mind, keep an eye on McKenzie in the Tryscorer markets, where he is 15.00 to score the opening try of the game and 2.60 to touchdown Anytime during Saturday’s clash at FMG Stadium Waikato.
