AFL: Bulldogs need to rediscover their bite

Western Bulldogs hold eighth place on the ladder, but Friday night’s opponents Richmond could jump above them with a win at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.

The AFL season is set for a dramatic conclusion to the regular season as a host of sides battle to make the top eight and play finals.

The Bulldogs and Tigers are two of them and we could be in for a cracker under the lights at Marvel.

Being the first game of the round, it presents an opportunity for one of these sides to put pressure on the sides around them by taking the win.

For the loser, it will be a long weekend, as they watch on and see how much damage is caused with the games fast running out.

There is plenty at stake and it is a game neither can afford to lose.

Bulldogs in need of a lift

It has been a poor run of form for the Bulldogs in recent weeks, and now is not the time to be losing games of footy.

They have slipped to defeats in three of the last four games, and last week’s five-point home loss against top-eight rivals, GWS, was a big setback.

Luke Beveridge’s side have also slipped to narrow defeats to Sydney Swans and Collingwood, and cannot afford another on Friday night.

The two sides met back in April with the Bulldogs winning by just five points. Close games appear to be a theme and we could be in for another one here.

The Bulldogs can be backed at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points, while the Tigers are 5.50 to win within the same points margin.

Aaron Naughton has been the main goal-scorer for the Bulldogs this season, averaging just under two a game.

The key forward can be backed at 9.50 to boot the first goal of the game on Friday night.

Tigers still in the hunt

Richmond have been in much better form and three wins in the last four games have moved them to within two points of the eight.

The one defeat came last weekend, and in fairness is was against top-four side Melbourne, who won by a convincing 32 points.

The Tigers will be looking to bounce back and do have a good record against the Bulldogs, winning two of the last three games.

Both of them were at the MCG, but Marvel Stadium should hold no fear for the Tigers.

Tim Taranto will again be key for the Tigers. The midfielder has been averaging 30 disposals a game this season and is priced at 3.00 to produce 30+ on Friday night.

Richmond have tough games against St Kilda and Port Adelaide to come, along with North Melbourne and now is the time to hit form.

They can be backed at 4.00 to kick on and make finals.
