Australian Racing: Cairns pick Out Of Sight

There are four meetings set to take place on Thursday with a good 4 surface expected at all bar Cairns.

Race 4 Gosford

Russian Zarina @ 5.00

Race 5 Geelong

Miss Titeline @ 5.50

Race 5 Cairns

Out Of Sight @ 3.20

Zarina to shine

The most valuable race on the Gosford card is a 1200m maiden plate set to take place as the fourth race of the day.

The experienced Hot Jive is expected to have her supporters having placed on five of her seven starts to date.

Those placed efforts include twice from three outings this spell, with the most recent seeing her lose out by a narrow margin in a maiden event over 1010m on a heavy 8 track at Orange on 24th November.

Prior to that, the three-year-old had failed to shine when last of nine on a good 4 surface over 1100m at Canterbury a week earlier and she looks opposable in this contest.

Claire Lever sends out RUSSIAN ZARINA here and, with just two starts to her name so far, she is open to improvement.

Those two starts have yielded two placed efforts however, including when beaten by a narrow margin when third in a 1000m maiden at Queanbeyan at the end of October.

The selection picked up a warning for her racing manners on that occasion and went on to finish one place better when runner-up over 1000m at Taree last month.

Both of those efforts have come on the good 4 going forecast here and she looks capable of breaking her maiden racing from barrier six.

Miss for Geelong success

The fifth race on the Geelong card is a competitive looking 1300m Benchmark 64 handicap for fillies & mares.

Esseffninety is expected to jump as favourite having shown good form in her three starts this time around.

The four-year-old has won two of those, including when racing at this level in a 1200m handicap at Pakenham on 16th November.

The daughter of I Am Invincible is making just her third start out of maiden company here and, while she looks to hold strong claims, she faces some tough opposition here.

Promising apprentice Sarah Field takes three kilograms off the back of her mount MISS TITELINE and they are selected to register their second victory together.

The pick recorded her second career win when taking out an 1100m Benchmark 64 handicap on a soft 5 track at Murtoa in October.

The five-year-old has gone on to place on all three subsequent starts, including when proving she can compete at metro level, when third in a 1200m Benchmark 64 handicap at Moonee Valley last time.

While that Moonee Valley effort came on a wet track, the return to the forecast sound surface should prove no issue and she is taken to salute for the Michael Leonard stable.

Sight to salute

The Steven Royes-trained OUT OF SIGHT takes the eye in the fifth race of the day at Cairns.

The race in question is set to take place on a soft 6 track, with a field of 11 declared for the 950m maiden handicap.

The four-year-old has placed second in each of her last two starts, with the first of those seeing her beaten by half-a-length in a 1200m maiden at Innisfail on 5th November.

The selection showed that she handles wet tracks, when narrowly beaten dropping to 1000m for a maiden contest held on a soft 5 surface at Home Hill.

The I Am Invincible filly has a good barrier three from the rail and, having raced from the front in three of her four previous starts, she is taken to make all here.
